“Overcrowded and Overrated”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

Rooms were clean and bed comfy. Disappointed that the suite had only a half wall to seperate spaces. However, waterpark was extremely crowded both days. Allowing day passes is not a good idea for the size of this waterpark. Only guests should have access. One man came in and bought 13 DAY passes. Just added to the crowd! No place for kids to just 'swim' in the waterpark without basketballs flying at your head. Had to use the seperate back pool for this, which seperated our party into two sections of the hotel. No place to buy snacks or munchies...only one restaurant. Good pizza though. Had a movie playing in the evening but was never told nor was it printed anyplace so we missed it by the time we saw it playing. Very disappointed for the amount of money paid. Had kids ranging from 5-8 years old in our party.

“Great place for young kids”

Hotel room suite was very nice and roomy with all the comforts of home. Seemed a little pricey at first but a full sit down breakfast was part of the package for our family of 7. With the pool and water slides available all day it made for a great deal and stay. The indoor water park was a really big hit with the kids.

Room Tip: If you was quick access to the indoor water park be sure to ask for a room/suite close by. Some roo...

“Nice but too compact”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

PROS:
Rooms were clean and updated. Had a flat screen TV (although the picture quality was worse than the "old school" TV we just threw out), microwave, coffee maker, and mini fridge. Rooms felt spacious and were very adequate for a family of four. Bed linens were updated and not that "slimy" bedspread of older hotels.

Staff were pleasant and helpful

Elf Hollow Cafe was very reaonably priced considering it was an in-hotel restaurant. We ate for dinner and everyone liked their food & kids meals were around $5 (compared to $10 at the Great Wolfe Lodge). Breakfast buffet was $10 and came with coffee. Kids prices were cheaper. Lots of variety of food for breakfast.

The hotel has another pool in a seperate area of the hotel. It had a pool of 3 feet deep, a hot tub, and another pool that didn't get over 5 ft. deep. My 5 year old liked this pool better as the main waterpark was teaming with too many people for her liking.

CONS:
The waterpark, arcade, and locker rooms were very compact. There were chairs & tables in the waterpark area, but so smushed together that there was no room to relax without being bumped into or splashed. All of the areas of the waterpark (toddler, big slides, hot tub, etc.) were practically on top of each other. Navigating the park made me feel like I was in downtown Chicago at Christmas

The pool towels were the size of an oversized hand towel. It has the plushness and absorbency of fine grit sandpaper. I'm not exagerrating either. The waterpark did not have adequate supplies of these "towels" all afternoon. Ridiculous.

The pool in the other part of the hotel as circa 1970's. The filtration system was obviously not at full strength as large hair balls were swirling all afternoon in both in the hot tub and the pool. Gross.

My extended family has gone to Great Wolfe Lodge several years in a row. We wanted to try something different this year and the consensus was that we want to go back to the Great Wolfe Lodge next year.

“Great getaway with a large family!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

Just returned from a weekend getaway there for my son's 9th birthday. We were extremely impressed with the pleasant staff, the hotel accommodations (including restaurant and water park), and the value of the package. We booked the Splash package, which includes room, water park tickets, full breakfast, and delicious chicken dinner at the infamous Zehnder's. We have 5 children and had no problem booking a spacious suite for our family that was well within our budget. Typically, when booking online, we run into the statement that we have too many guests to accommodate. So, this was a welcome reprieve. The room was clean and provided lots of space. We were able to check in at noon so that we could drop off our luggage and change before entering the water park. We enjoyed the water park for both days of our stay and were made to feel very welcome with our larger-than-normal kids crew throughout our stay. We will definitely be returning in the future!

“Great Family Vacation!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

This hotel was really nice! We stayed in a family suite w/fireplace that was clean and lovely. The waterpark was very nice, clean and warm! There was a lifeguard there, a younger girl that wore a white tee-shirt, she was exceptionally friendly and gave me (the mom) tips on how to get in and out of the inflatable in order to ride the tube slides (great fun)!! Even the other guests were wonderful. This was one of the best trips in a long time! Thanks Zehnder's and the Zehnder's staff for giving us a wonderful holiday vacation!!

Room Tip: This is a family place thus there are children running about at all times, we love this!
