Upon check in there was no one to be seen in the check in area. eventually someone showed up and checked me in. the price posted on the sign out front was lower than the AAA rate I booked on the internet, and the desk clerk would not give me the lower rate ( I did not book this on priceline, etc, I booked it on their website). Hotel in MI are now all non-smoking and have been a while (I'm pretty sure), but this still smelled like old smoke and mildewy with a slight sent of some room freshener. I had a single room which as obviouusly an old double room with one bed taken out- so only furnature in 1/2 the room. I had a first floor room, and each room has a walk out to a "patio" My patio was about 3 inches from the parking lot and a view of the expressway. Also the door of the patio was not latched, so I carefully checked the bathroon to be sure no one had let himself in and squatting in my room. One of the two soft chairs in the room was stained pretty badly. The room had a somewhat grimy feel to it, some visable black handprints around the window. Something had evidently been removed from a wall, as there were screw holes that had not been patched and it was evident how much smoke/grime the walls had been exposed to by the whiter patch that was under whatever it was that had been removed. Other clients a little loud, and it seemed like some domestic disturbances. Above me was a family with a kid who apparently needed help in the bathroom (I could here it all like they were sharing a room with me) and they had a dog. It didn't sound like a small dog by it's bark. On the up side, it looke like the bedspread was relitively new and no burn holes in it. Linens seemed pretty clean, but also pretty small and thin (as expected in an economy motel). Also look like they are tyring with some upgrades- the curved shower curtain, new door and door frame, new toilet that still had the sticker on it, new tile in the bathroom, new sink). No shampoo, ect- just soap. The exercise room was locked and dark, but it looked just as lame in person as it does on the website for this hotel. The sign said also game room and hot tub. I did not see any indicate that htere was a hot tub or game room. The sign outside ways econolodge and there is banner strung across the front that indicates knights inn. Next door is a closed delapadated old Howard Johnsons. There is a free breakfast, and despite the fact that I'm pretty tight with my money, I think I'm going to pass on that unless they have some individually packaged muffins or granold bars as I'm not sure that I could stomach any food that was prepared in a hotel that is not so clean. Other good stuff: micro wave and fridge in the room. Alarm clock present and seems to be newer and working well. Also internet (free) seems to work well. Would I stay again-- probably if I was the only one staying. I'd never bring kids here, especially little kids that might crawl on the floor. Would I recommend to a friend? Maybe if they were looking for something ultra cheap and I'd tell them to check the doors and windows and take everything of value out of their car.
One more good thing- near campus of saginaw valley and that is a great place to go for a walk.

I am sorry about all the problems you encountered during your stay at the Bay City Knights Inn. There is no excuse for this and if you wish to contact the hotel and ask for the manager, I will be glad to refund the amount you paid for your stay. I would also like to offer you a complimentary room next time you are in this area and hope to gain your confidence.
Thank you.
