“Stay away-dirty; has lots of spiders"”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 September 2010

We stayed one night and had booked through Expedia, so we were unable to cancel at the last minute. Our room was dirty, there was used soap in the tub, no towels, and only one pillow. The desk clerk was a nice young man who was very apologetic. He advised we would be able to watch fireworks from our balcony. When we opened the door to the balcony, there were spiders everywhere. We closed the door and watched through the glass. Next morning in better lighting, we saw cobwebs between the furniture and under the air conditioning unit (which did not work). He did offer a discount when we checked out, but that turned into a nightmare with my credit card when the manager would not allow the credit to be taken off my card. Eventually, Capital One settled this in our favor.

“Stay Away! Extremely rude owner! Will swindle your money!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 August 2010

Stayed here during the month of July and it's the most awful place I have ever been in! They advertised free "high speed wireless internet" which wasn't working at all. The bed was broken. The room and the bathroom were extremely dirty! Blood stains on the patio door. Carpets hadn't been vacuumed in ages! The owner who worked the front desk was rude from the start. We left after he refused to change our room and wouldn't offer a refund either.
After I got my credit card statement, I saw that I was charged twice for the room. I called and was told that it will be taken care of. It's been over a month and still haven't gotten my money back. Stay away from this hellhole by all means!

Guest made reservation online, after spending over an hour in the room, came for a refund, front desk told the guest to cancel reservation through the booking agent, the booking agent refused to cancel because it was non refundable, guest was charged once, if a guest is charged twice, they can dispute the charge with their bank and would thus get a credit, guest did not do that. I am sorry he was disappointed with the room.

“BEWARE!!!! OWNER IS A THIEF!!!”

I needed a hotel room on very short notice. I realized that every hotel room in Bay City was booked due to the Tall Ships Celebration in town. Against my better judgment, I booked this hotel room. I knew not to expect much due to this place’s reputation and I know you get what you pay for. I figured it was only for a night and all I needed the room for was to shower and about 6 hours of sleep, so what is the worse that could happen. On top of everything being dirty, the owner over charged my credit card.

I checked out early and thought everything was OK, then noticed the extra charges 2 days later. I have called several times to speak with him and he never called me back. I finally got a hold of him and faxed him the info showing the extra charges. He said he would fix it. 2 WEEK LATER HE STILL REFUSES TO FIX IT! I’ve called back and he answers the phone and lies and says that he is not there; he even hung up on me. I can not believe this could happen with a national chain hotel. I’ve contacted the national office and they promised me a resolution. I have contacted the BBB! Please do not fall victim to this place.---JM

Every hotel was full in the surrounding area, including the this Knights Inn, the guest showed up and was begging for the room, there was a room that was off market and the guest said he did not care as long as there is a bed and a shower and he checked the room before he rented. After about 6 hours, taking shower and taking a nap, decided to travel further and wanted a refund. He was refused a refund and he was not charged twice. If he was charged twice, he would have disputed the charges with his bank, which he never did.

“disappointed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 July 2010

the pool was not opened when it was advertised. that was very disappointing and then the internet was only in lobby. never did use it. Room was pretty clean, needs a lot of maintenance work. it was a workout to get the patio door to slide.had to keep reminging myself that it was cheap and i have been in worse places.

“yes, it's bad, but its cheap”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 July 2010

Upon check in there was no one to be seen in the check in area. eventually someone showed up and checked me in. the price posted on the sign out front was lower than the AAA rate I booked on the internet, and the desk clerk would not give me the lower rate ( I did not book this on priceline, etc, I booked it on their website). Hotel in MI are now all non-smoking and have been a while (I'm pretty sure), but this still smelled like old smoke and mildewy with a slight sent of some room freshener. I had a single room which as obviouusly an old double room with one bed taken out- so only furnature in 1/2 the room. I had a first floor room, and each room has a walk out to a "patio" My patio was about 3 inches from the parking lot and a view of the expressway. Also the door of the patio was not latched, so I carefully checked the bathroon to be sure no one had let himself in and squatting in my room. One of the two soft chairs in the room was stained pretty badly. The room had a somewhat grimy feel to it, some visable black handprints around the window. Something had evidently been removed from a wall, as there were screw holes that had not been patched and it was evident how much smoke/grime the walls had been exposed to by the whiter patch that was under whatever it was that had been removed. Other clients a little loud, and it seemed like some domestic disturbances. Above me was a family with a kid who apparently needed help in the bathroom (I could here it all like they were sharing a room with me) and they had a dog. It didn't sound like a small dog by it's bark. On the up side, it looke like the bedspread was relitively new and no burn holes in it. Linens seemed pretty clean, but also pretty small and thin (as expected in an economy motel). Also look like they are tyring with some upgrades- the curved shower curtain, new door and door frame, new toilet that still had the sticker on it, new tile in the bathroom, new sink). No shampoo, ect- just soap. The exercise room was locked and dark, but it looked just as lame in person as it does on the website for this hotel. The sign said also game room and hot tub. I did not see any indicate that htere was a hot tub or game room. The sign outside ways econolodge and there is banner strung across the front that indicates knights inn. Next door is a closed delapadated old Howard Johnsons. There is a free breakfast, and despite the fact that I'm pretty tight with my money, I think I'm going to pass on that unless they have some individually packaged muffins or granold bars as I'm not sure that I could stomach any food that was prepared in a hotel that is not so clean. Other good stuff: micro wave and fridge in the room. Alarm clock present and seems to be newer and working well. Also internet (free) seems to work well. Would I stay again-- probably if I was the only one staying. I'd never bring kids here, especially little kids that might crawl on the floor. Would I recommend to a friend? Maybe if they were looking for something ultra cheap and I'd tell them to check the doors and windows and take everything of value out of their car.
One more good thing- near campus of saginaw valley and that is a great place to go for a walk.

I am sorry about all the problems you encountered during your stay at the Bay City Knights Inn. There is no excuse for this and if you wish to contact the hotel and ask for the manager, I will be glad to refund the amount you paid for your stay. I would also like to offer you a complimentary room next time you are in this area and hope to gain your confidence.
Thank you.
