This was a very basic older style motel....think "back to the 50's". Location directly on the beach and good views from upper floor apartment unit. We stayed in the motel section which was at ground level. Though it fronted the beach, the public road was adjacent and there was no privacy or security from the general public. Because we were there just prior to high season I wasn't too concerned. Poor attention to follow-up: no internet password given at check-in (and we didn't think to ask at the time), only 1 decaf packet of coffee in the room. At check-in we were told if we needed anything to call the "24 hour number", however when we tried to contact staff at that number we never received a response to our voice messages. Had to wait until next morning at 10:00 when someone came in to the office. At check-in we were required to pay total amount for our stay up front, then seemed like staff was AWOL after that. Additionally, because the unit was on ground floor next to the street, people would walk by and ask us how to find the office. Obviously the office entrance was not marked....later discovered there was a small sign on the office door but that was kept open when staff was in, so sign could not be seen. Beds were comfortable, but had only a sheet and bedspread, no blankets. Room was spacious and had a small dining table and 2 chairs; refrigerator and microwave, good lighting; separate lounge chair. Small porch/landing outside room but no privacy from next door unit or the street (as noted above). Bathroom fan/light was very noisy - bring a nightlight! Did not see any ice machine.
The "suites" were located next to the motel building and may have been newer and better appointed - we did not see them. May be suitable for older adults who just want to view the ocean and relax.
Salisbury Beach itself had a fairly narrow dry sand area; the tidal zone was steeply slanted, probably about 10-12 foot drop, and the waves came in high and close together. This would be a good beach for small children who like to play in the sand or older teens who want to surf, but otherwise did not appear to be a safe swimming beach. The downtown area had seen better days and not much to do either. Now we know why York Beach is such a popular area!
