My wife and I stayed at the Sheraton in Framingham Massachusetts last weekend as part of a birthday getaway. The hotel is within easy reach from the Massachusetts Turnpike and Rt. 9. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The room was clean with a king size bed with fresh linens which is always a hit with me. My main concerns were in 2 areas. First and foremost the fire alarm system was silenced and was in trouble mode which renders the system incapable of warning guests of danger. As a retired Fire Marshal I view this as a dangerous practice that apparently has continued because of numerous false alarms from the fire alarm system. Whenever I check in to a hotel I always make note of the emergency exits and the location of the main fire alarm panel and the status of the alarm. A bartender there told me the last time the fire department was there, the manager had been warned that if there were any further problems with the fire alarm the hotel would be fined for nuisance alarms. I guess the hotel decided that the best way to deal with the problem was to ignore the problem and hope for the best. The other problem was in the bathroom of our room. The National Electrical code calls for any electrical outlet within 6 feet of a source of water to be a GFIC or ground fault interrupter circuit. Our bathroom had a standard 3 prong outlet which is illegal. I can't imagine why Sheraton hasn't updated the electrical outlets in the room since the code was changed in 2002. This is a nice hotel but it seriously needs updating.
