My brother and I had a wonderful stay with Elizabeth at The Pickett House for three nights last June. This was my first vacation in a long time, and I was looking for an opportunity to unplug and decompress.
The B&B is located away from the hustle and bustle in Edgartown and Oaks Bluff. The ride to the inn through farmland and meadows was relaxing. We made several stops along the way at a bakery, country stores, art gallery, and nature preserve.
From the moment we turned into the inn’s parking lot, I knew this B&B was the right choice. The grounds were beautiful with several inviting gardens and outdoor “rooms.” Adirondack chairs are strategically placed to sit in and watch the world go by – all while inhaling the intoxicating island fragrances and listening to the surf crashing on nearby beaches.
The inn is charming, peaceful, and has a feeling of casual elegance. The common spaces are filled with antiques and intriguing collectibles. Elizabeth and her family welcomed us, gave us a tour of the B&B, showed us to our rooms, and then quietly disappeared while we got settled.
We stayed in the queen and twin rooms on the second floor. Our rooms were very clean and comfortable with a shared bath. The towels were luxurious, and Elizabeth left her hand-made luxury soaps and shampoo for us to use. Quite a nice touch. The bed linens were of excellent quality and the bed was quite inviting. My first inclination was to run and jump on my bed like a child. What I actually did was fall onto the bed with a big sigh and immediately the stresses of everyday life started to melt as the comfy bed absorbed me.
Each morning during our stay, we were greeted with plentiful and good quality coffee and teas. Elizabeth prepared a different, light breakfast each day. Organic fruits, granolas, warm breads, yogurts, and an assortment of delicious cheeses. Very satisfying and just enough to get us started for the day. My brother and I fought for the chair by the corner windows in the sitting room. This was the perfect location to watch the morning mist burn off and see various “designer” birds visiting Elizabeth’s gardens.
Elizabeth is so friendly and a gracious host, and she made me feel like I arrived home. She was helpful in recommending restaurants, her favorite beaches (The Pickett House has beach passes available to the private Lucy Vincent and Squibnocket beaches), and other things for us to do. I would highly recommend a stay at The Pickett House and look forward to my next stay with Elizabeth.
