The price was right and the location was perfect so we picked this hotel. We chose the Americana farthest south in OC, the one without a pool. We could have used the pool at the northern Americana but we never tend to swim in indoor pools and that's all they offer there. The location is perfect, you are walking distance to everything on the Boardwalk and right at the Kite Loft which tends to be an ideal spot for kids. This part of the beach offers playgrounds for the kids every few blocks, we love the FREE fun! The staff was ok, they were exchange students and not really the most helpful, but they were fine.

We love this hotel! The pool is awful and we have never used it but for the price I have no complaints. We stayed from Sept. 3-10th, through Labor Day weekend. The hotel is a bit old and getting run down. Some of the furniture is getting shabby and the wallpaper is getting worn. The bedding and drapes need replaced. Some of the sinks have cigarette burns on them...what do you do about THAT? The sliding glass doors are getting moisture in the glass. Although old, the room is always clean. The maids come every day. They clean the sinks, the tub, the toilet, etc. If you want new towels, you leave your used ones on the floor and they replace them. My fiancee and I have stayed here for over 5 years and have never had any major problems. Life is not perfect. Sometimes things go wrong. We have witnessed people screaming at the personnel. The staff always does what they can to handle any situation that may arise. They have had to make us new keys. Is it their fault something happens to the lock? Things break suddenly. People think when something happens they can scream and holler and get their stay refunded. I wish all of life was that way! I know things go wrong where I work and no one intends for bad things to happen. We paid $1200.00 (including tax, etc.) for 7 nights-OCEAN FRONT.

Hotel dirty and dated. VERY small dirty swimming pool! Room key didn't work EIGHT TIMES had to ask for new keys! Stayed labor day weekend and last night was locked out after returning at midnight! After treated like an imbasal (you didn't put your key next to your phone or credit card did you???") and the clerk tried 10 more key cards and couldn't get in thought it might be the battery in the lock! After Sam the maintenance man showed up and didn't have right key thought he should try programming key card again as my family are passing out on the hallway! He finally went, God knows where, to get another set of keys and we got in our room without a key at 1 am to sleep! I asked for manager all this time and in morning and was told he came in afternoon when he felt like it! I was told at 9:30 am as I was packed and checking out I could have an extended stay!!! (Like I wanted to stay in that hotel another minute!!!) I left note for the manager requesting a discount for my inconvience and the clerk called me 5 hours later to tell me the manager said I will not get any discount and next time to ask for another room! BELIEVE ME THERE WILL NEVER BE A NEXT TIME FOR ME IN THIS HOTEL OR ANYONE ONE I KNOW!! ALL MILITARY STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL!!!! I paid $159 a night for a side view room and it was not worth the money at all! Pay the extra money and go some where else and enjoy your vacation!

Dear god what a rotten place to stay. Lets start with why we even stayed here. The Hurricane shut OC down for the weekend and our hotel wasn't going to be ready till monday but we wanted to get down on sunday.. needed a place for a night. Called.. said we would have 4 ppl and wanted an ocean front.... $150. ok fine. Get there and the lady informs us it will be an additional $10 a person because we are 4 adults and not 2 adults 2 children and she didn't remember us saying we had 4 on the phone WHICH WE CLEARLY DID... i wanted to argue but i was tired and what was the point? I don't see how that is a difference.. the rooms sleeps 4 people one way or another... so why is is suddenly $20 more because we are all legal?...Either way should've told us ON THE PHONE $170

Pool was NASTY. needed a new liner more than you could imagine.. water obviously not kept very clean... fine.. oh well. Not my biggest complaint...

When it comes to the beds and rooms.. thats where i had a problem. Carpet was soaked near the balcony door... oh well hurricane must've gotten it wet.. stuff happens.. I overlooked the pealing wall paper and stains everywhere... its a boardwalk hotel.. then i got into the bed. I think i would've been just as comfortable on a slab of stone with a blanket. Not only was rock hard with springs poking you they had the most awful scratchy sheets on it.
Not saying they had bedbugs but SOMETHING was in there biting us. I itched all night and my BF woke up with welts. Springs got me in the back all night to the point where i just gave it up and fought back the tears of exhaustion.

The shower was equally as awful. No water pressure so it was hard to get clean.... plus it took decades to even get the water mildly warm.

I've stayed at a lot of hotels and i know the quality of the boardwalk ones... they get used alot so you can't expect too much.. but even by those standards.. americana was awful.

Save yourself the money and go somewhere nicer. It definitely wasn't worth the money.
