“The hotel is a 3 but the location and services are a 4”

Its an older hotel and you can see the wear and tear but our room was clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Our stay included breakfast. The breakfast buffet was quite extensive (love the waffle maker). The hotel bar was nice to have for an after dinner drink.

The breakfast was not included in the room charge but rather we were given coupons which I didnt discover until we were charged for the breakfast. It was quite a pain to get the charges reversed and the coupons applied but the staff worked on it until they figured out how to do it.

The location was great. A 5 minute stroll to the the downtown restaurants.

“Standard Holiday Inn experience.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 November 2011

Nice room. There was a little train noise at night, but not too much. The pub, Harrigan's, was nice to unwind and a good place for breakfast the next morning. Our room was clean as was everywhere in the hotel that I experienced. The beds were comfortable and there were extra pillows as well. I would stay here again.

“Pleasant Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

My husband and I just returned from a 3 night stay in Cumberland. My husband had business and I had planned on hiking but the weather did not cooperate (snow!) so I spent a LOT of time in the hotel. We had a room facing the trains, yes there are train sounds but they diminish at night. The room and bathroom were clean. I peeked under beds and behind furniture and everything was well maintained. I ate breakfast at the restaurant every day and found the food and service to be good. The room was serviced every day while I was at breakfast. The only complaint I had was the weather- and that was beyond the Holiday Inn's control. I would like to add the this Holiday Inn offered reduced prices on rooms for dental volunteers for the county's mission of mercy so should be saluted for their civic responsibility.

“Shoulda checked Trip Advisor first”

Stayed here a few years ago, all was well. This time booked a "bargain" room online, only smoking available. Unbelievable tobacco stench in room. Incomplete fixings for pod coffee maker when we arrived, no cold cups.
Next day beds were unmade, tub unscrubbed, carpet un-vacuumed (same shred of tissue and crumbs on floor). Coffee service was replenished, however! A plastic tray in bathroom holding shampoo, etc. was disgusting, splattered with toothpaste, etc.
Then I read Trip Advisor and learned others had similar complaints.
Only one person ever at the desk, amazingly pleasant considering the complaints they must field daily.
The only thing this place has going for it is great downtown location. This "bargain" cost $137 a night (no microwave or refrigerator). I'm not a nitpicker, but when I pay $137 a night at a Holiday Inn, I expect a decent room.

About those smoking rooms--last spring I stayed in a Holiday Inn through Priceline and they gave me a smoking room. When I protested, they said it was on the request. Priceline said it wasn't and I've never had that happen before. I'll bet HI rooms redeemed through Priority Club points are also smoking!

Room Tip: Ask for room opposite the train tracks.

“Disappointed”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2011

We were extremely disappointed with this hotel. First, the staff was friendly and the restaurant was pretty good. But the room was terrible. It appears that is a old hotel. However, this is no excuse for the lack of cleanliness. The room was not clean. It looked as though it had not been dusted for awhile; the carpet was dirty and stained, and the bathroom was not good either. When we arrived in mid afternoon, it looked as though there was only one person cleaning the entire floor. We had to ask her to vacuum our room. She was very nice and did so. We also had a broken lamp. They replaced it immediately with one that was probably taken out of storage, covered with dust. Bags of trash stayed in the hallway until the evening; not a pleasant sight. And finally, our room was on the railroad track side with trains coming and going constantly. If you decide to stay here(and we recommend you do not), do not accept a room on the back side of the hotel.
