As the oldest, continuously operated airport in the world, College Park's Aviation Museum has interesting surprises for even those not interested in aviation. The site served as a "1st," in so many activities, such as Airmail, and the nation's Army Aviation School, where you would have found Wilbur Wright as the instructor! The fairly small museum hosts overhead originals and replicas of early models, and you'll find out why this particular location was chosen. The museum holds many kid-friendly activities thruout the year, & The Nat'l Capital Trackers host a mini-train exhibit each xmas season. It's an enjoyable & worthwhile activity for anyone for a $4 entrance fee!

My wife and take the Collge Park Metro in to work everyday. We always see the signs for this aviation museum and talk about how we should check it out. Well last weekend with the heat index into the 110s, we decided that it was the right time.

The prices are pretty reasonable ($4 for adults, $3 for kids), but my wife is in the military so we both got in for free. This airfield has quite a unique history that I did not know. It is the oldest continually operation arifield in the world, the Wright brothers flew here for a while, and the first military aviators trained here.

The museum is very open and there are models of aiplanes all throughout it. There are also numerous hands on activities for children too. My favorite part was the imagination plane. It was an actual working cockpit with moving rudders and buttons and levers and everything. We were a little too big, but my wife and I squeezed in and it was pretty fun. There is also a Wright brothers flight simulator you can do for only $1.

The museum was not crowded and I am sure it never is. There is an area outside for children to play on different types of toy planes as well as a gift shop that sells kites and other flying gadgets. All in all this was a fun little trip.

Quaint aviation museum. This is a small museum that is always enjoyable for our two small children. They have outdoor area with pretend airplanes that the kids can drive. Inside are exhibifrom the dawn of flight of one of the nation's oldest airports. There are also several hands on exhibits about principles of flight and dress up fun. I recommend for a lazy afternoon.

I have a 4 & 6 year olds who are very busy. When we're on vacation they go, go, go. It's hard to go to super crowded place, like the Natural History Museum or National Air and Space Museum because they get a little lost in the crowd. They're a little huge for their little legs, too. Read about this museum in Fodors Washington DC for kids and took a chance. Drove up to College Park on a cold and rainy March morning. It was great! Terrific size. Not crowded. Staffed by awesome, helpful volunteers who welcomed us as though the place was their home. Lots of hands-on activities. Kids can push buttons, dress up, do art projects, build Legos, climb in planes, watch movies, and tear around without fear of offending anybody or getting lost. It's a little gem, in fact, for little kids. Nice little gift shop. No dining facilities, but we made our way (thanks to GPS and Poynt) to Platos Diner just off the Univ of Maryland's campus and ate like kings. All in all, a great way to spend an hour or two. (For a grand total of $10 admission.)
