The bad, the ugly, and the uglier
What can you say about a B&B when the best part is “escaping” and returning home ?
My husband & I went to the Catoctin Inn with our best friends for a 2 night get away. The weekend began with the proprietor “surprised” to see us and uncertain as to the length of our stay. Reservations had been made a month in advance. It quickly went downhill from there. The Baker “suites” described as “8 Luxury Guest Rooms” are musty smelling, with Berber stained carpet, an antiquated decorating motif and dark (Limited lighting as they are under a deck)– Easy to imagine them as previous horse stalls. We informed the owner these were not acceptable and transferred to the Main House. Upon inspecting the Priscilla room we found “curly” hair on the toilet and looked no further before requesting a room cleaning. Our 4:00pm check-in became a 5:30 one. At this point I will list all the problems with the rooms (Priscilla & Nathaniel) 2 of the priciest rooms in the Inn -$150.00 per night):
Bed: No Mattress Pad (causing the sheet to slide off all night),
Paper-thin sheets ( No Thread Count), No Blanket (only the bedspread), No Headboard, No King pillowcases on King Pillows.
Bath: Toilet flushes every 10 minutes, No water Pressure, Water Stops midstream during shower, soaps are miniscule in size, Shower only in Nathaniel room and is so small you cannot turn around, (God help you if you drop the soap!), Handle in bath came off in Priscilla room, No Disposable or Sealed Cups.
There is no thermostat in the rooms.
There was a 2 inch gap in our door, so if you sneezed or laughed, your neighbors heard you. Great ambiance for a “romantic getaway”. The breakfast was hardly a “Full Sumptuous Country “ one- On Sunday at the buffet, the scrambled eggs were gray, no toast, ran out of French Toast…
The “Spa” is a one person / one room operation currently “under renovation”.
This Inn is a true example of the “magical ability ” of a webmaster
and obviously “what you see is NOT what you get” at the Catoctin Inn.
