“One of the best B&Bs I've stayed in”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 April 2006

I also stayed in this B&B in March, with my wife. We had a great time. The staff was wonderful, very gracious and helpful. the ambience of the older buildings was great. And the food was out of this world! Great restaurant. We stayed in Daniels Room in the main building. The renovations are quite a nice improvement, based on the picture in the room. It's an old building (built in 1700 or 1800's) so the floors squeak, etc. but that's part of its charm. We'll be returning, definitely, and when we can't stay, we'll bring others with us to the restaurant. It's about an hours drive from our home, but well worth every second.

“The bad, the ugly and the uglier”

The bad, the ugly, and the uglier

What can you say about a B&B when the best part is “escaping” and returning home ?
My husband & I went to the Catoctin Inn with our best friends for a 2 night get away. The weekend began with the proprietor “surprised” to see us and uncertain as to the length of our stay. Reservations had been made a month in advance. It quickly went downhill from there. The Baker “suites” described as “8 Luxury Guest Rooms” are musty smelling, with Berber stained carpet, an antiquated decorating motif and dark (Limited lighting as they are under a deck)– Easy to imagine them as previous horse stalls. We informed the owner these were not acceptable and transferred to the Main House. Upon inspecting the Priscilla room we found “curly” hair on the toilet and looked no further before requesting a room cleaning. Our 4:00pm check-in became a 5:30 one. At this point I will list all the problems with the rooms (Priscilla & Nathaniel) 2 of the priciest rooms in the Inn -$150.00 per night):
Bed: No Mattress Pad (causing the sheet to slide off all night),
Paper-thin sheets ( No Thread Count), No Blanket (only the bedspread), No Headboard, No King pillowcases on King Pillows.
Bath: Toilet flushes every 10 minutes, No water Pressure, Water Stops midstream during shower, soaps are miniscule in size, Shower only in Nathaniel room and is so small you cannot turn around, (God help you if you drop the soap!), Handle in bath came off in Priscilla room, No Disposable or Sealed Cups.
There is no thermostat in the rooms.
There was a 2 inch gap in our door, so if you sneezed or laughed, your neighbors heard you. Great ambiance for a “romantic getaway”. The breakfast was hardly a “Full Sumptuous Country “ one- On Sunday at the buffet, the scrambled eggs were gray, no toast, ran out of French Toast…
The “Spa” is a one person / one room operation currently “under renovation”.
This Inn is a true example of the “magical ability ” of a webmaster
and obviously “what you see is NOT what you get” at the Catoctin Inn.

“Romantic Getaway”

What a romantic setting! My husband and I recently stayed at The Catoctin Inn & Resort and had a wonderful time. Now under new ownership, since February we were told, The Catoctin Inn was the perfect place to getaway to! We had a superb meal at Quills at The Catoctin which is their new fine dining colonial restaurant complete with costumed servers. We stayed in the Summer Kitchen Cottage which is decorated with antiques and has a King Size Bed, Double Jacuzzi Tub and a Fireplace! We would highly recommend this to all couples looking for a quiet, romantic getaway!

“I thought the place was charming”

For our aniversary, my husband took me to dinner at the Catoctin Inn (I thought). Quite a romantic place. The food was superb, the service great, and the gentleman playing the harp was fantastic! When dinner was finally over (and after a bottle of wine) the staff brought out an array of deserts for our enjoyent. One even had a candle. I was quite prepared to go home, since I live in the Frederick area, but my dear sweet husband made arrangements to spend the entire weekend. We stayed in the Buckey cabin. It was clean, furnished with a king-size bed and antique furniture. It even had a double whirlpool bath and a fire place. I totally enjoyed the experience and recommend it to lovers everywhere. Definitely an above average experience!

“Disappointing!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 August 2004

We were very disappointed in this B&B. The country breakfast consisted of thin french toast with watery maple syrup and about a teaspoon of powdered sugar with watery coffee, OJ and fruit. The air conditioner didn't work properly, the TV remote control didn't work at all, there were stains in the jets of the whirlpool tub, and the plastic table and chair on the porch were broken.

It is obvious that this B&B makes most of their money from weddings and large groups, so if you are just a couple looking for a romantic getaway you will likely be very disappointed.
