“Quiet”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 November 2011

While planning a weekend trip to Fredrick County Maryland; I looked for overnight accommodations that were in a country setting and preferably locally owned. This ended up being a major challenge! I just was not able to find any establishments meeting my requirements in the area where I wanted to stay. Using Trip Advisor and other search engines the only property that came close to meeting my needs was Green Country Inn in Brunswick.

The inn is owned by a railroad and its main use is for train crews on mandated crew rest with half of the rooms reserved for that purpose and the remaining rooms available to the public.

The rooms are small but well furnished. Based on previous comments it appears that there has been an effort made at improving the rooms. However; the lighting still needs to be improved, there was only one light which was wall mounted that was not adequate for anything except moving around the room. There was no lighting in the area of the desk or the easy chair. The Bathroom was badly outdated and not up to current standards. The room and Bathroom were clean. The room was very quiet as advertised.

I feel a good indicator of the quality of a hotel restaurant is how well it attracts people from surrounding community. The restaurant was crowded with “locals” for both the evening meal and breakfast the following day. It appeared that all meals are cooked after being ordered with the result that it takes a while for your meal to be delivered after you place your order; which means your food is delivered at the peak of perfection. The meals were reasonably priced and very good quality.

I will definitely stay at this establishment again when I am in the area.

“Simple, quiet”

We recently stayed at the Green Country Inn on a lark. We were on our way to PA and were antiquing in the area. We got several good deals, and while my g/f was thanking my upon our last buy (okay, she was kissing me) a guy went by and said "get a room". We laughed and started to go. Along the way, she said, why don't we get a room. So it was by accident we found the Green Dountry Inn.

It's a very simple, inexpensive motel. The rooms aren't much, but they are comfortable for two, have a TV, and quiet. There is a sort community room and exercise place upstairs so you won't get cabin fever. The only things we didn't like was only having a shower, and no door on our bathroom. But we loved the bed, the restaurant (get the Big Scrambler!) and the waitress we had was efficient and funny.

The room was cleap enough for our mini stay and we truly enjoyed the breakfast, the intimacy and the memories of olden days.

“Small but Clean!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2010

I was in Brunswick on business and a friend recomened the Green Country Inn. The rooms are small but maintained. Management stated that the property was built by the YMCA. I seen pictures and have read comments about the property from past guest. I will have to say that lot's of imporvements have been made. Again, the rooms are small dark and quiet and you can get plenty of rest. The staff was extra friendly and the new diner was awesome!

“Alcatraz, Indeed!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 September 2006

This is the first hotel I've ever seen that didn't have a door on the bathroom. They literally spared no expense on the room decorations (they were nonexistent)--just concrete brick walls. The diner is a joke--I'm not brave enough to eat there. As was the "game room" that was advertised--nothing more than a pinball machine in the hallway. When we came in to check in, I said "We have a reservation" and the clerk (diner waitress) just looked at me like I was speaking a foreign language--"Uh, What's a reservation?"

I completely agree with the earlier message (especially the Alcatraz part):

"As we pulled into this motel, after a long day of driving, we noticed a truck in the parking lot with a sign on its side that said "Skidrow Hauling" - this set the tone for our stay. We had to find a busboy from inside the kitchen to register us,- Inside the entrance on the stairs to the second floor, there was a pile of dried vomit. The room was like a jail cell in the movie the "Green Mile"...concrete block walls, no door on the bathroom, a communal shower large enough for a platoon of men, (no bath), a washbasin the size of my makeup mirror with a faucet that wouldn't stop running. The carpets were dirty and had stains that suspiciously looked like blood. The smell was indescribable - a mix of "Carpet Fresh" deodorizer and something else I couldn't identify. The outside looks pretty nice - but the rooms are really bad. It was only because we were exhausted and it was the middle of the night and we were desperate that we stayed there after seeing the room. By the way - they advertise a 24 hour restaurant but don't be fooled by that. Most of their menu items weren't available after 9pm. Stay away from this place unless you are doing some Alcatraz re-enactment."

The room was small but it was very clean. There were plenty of clean towels too. The shower was huge with great water pressure. The carpet was new and the walls seemed to be freshly painted. The diner was good. The staff was friendly and the food was very good. I enjoyed my stay, and would not hesitate to stay there again.
