“Great Value, Charming Rooms”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 October 2010

My friend and I decided to take a weekend trip up to Bar Harbor to explore the area. We reserved a motel room, but decided to switch to a cottage once we got there. The difference between the two was huge; the motel room was modern with standard furnishings and lots of light, the cottage was quaint with 50's style furniture and views on the woods in the back. The cottage had two bedrooms, a living room area, and a bathroom. It also had a fridge and microwave, which was convenient for storing food. we loved the privacy of living in our own building. The location was definitely good; the drive to Acadia National Park and Schoodic Point was about 15 minutes, and theres a restaurant/deli right next to the motel. We loved the area; wandering around Bar Harbor is definitely a must. The nights were much colder than what we were expecting, coming from North Carolina, but the cottage had heat control in each bedroom. We had a great time, definitely would visit again.

“I got to spend time enjoying the park instead of searching for a room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2010

During the end of July, my husband and I decided to take a trip to Maine. It was our first time there and we were looking for an inexpensive but clean motel to stay for three nights. After stopping at a bunch of different motels and looking at the rooms, we stopped at Acadia Gateway Motel. We had a look at one of the motel rooms with a queen bed (room number 20). It was farther from the road and situated in the back which made the stay nice and quiet. It was a pretty big room with the windows overlooking a forest. The price was a reasonable amount compared to the time of our stay and all in all it met our expectations. The owner was very hospitable and gave us tips on what there was to do, when we should do it and the best places to eat. These helpful hints allowed us to use our time to the max. On top of the great room, the motel was across the street from a restaurant. It was a BBQ Pit and a Lobster Pound which had delicious food and wasn't expensive. There was also a breakfast place next to the motel around a minute driving towards Bar Harbor named Pectic Seafood. Since it was a local place, the food was cheap (around $4.00 per person) and tasty. Everyone was very charitable and helpful. Most of our time was spent either hiking Cadillac mountain, visiting Acadia National Park, kayaking, or stuffing ourselves with lobsters and taking a stroll in Bar Harbor. Once we finished our adventure of the day we usually came back to our motel room exhausted but delighted. We didn't waste any days sitting in our room. From the early morning to the late evening we were out exploring. The atmosphere was fresh and crisp. The service was wonderful, too. The maid came in daily to freshen up our room and change the towels. Our stay was wonderful and exciting, I would recommend this as a good place to stay if your looking for something clean and nice. The drive to the park was around 15 minutes and to Bar Harbor it was around 20min so the location was fairly good.

“Do not stay if you don't like fleas...”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 July 2010

I stayed with my daughter in a cabin and immediately got eaten alive by fleas. Than we saw and killed a cockroach with an eggsack. That was the cabin. I complained and owner was appalled that I would even say such a thing.. It was true. I asked for another room so I stayed in the hotel room which was clean with not bug problems., I stayed here last year and swore I would never stay again but forgot the name so booked it again by accident.. Too much money for what you get. Stay at Jaspers for the same price and those rooms are castles compared to these depressing rooms. You can tell the owners have not sunk a dime into the place not that you could see... They need to update. Beds are comfy but not any of the chairs. You have to laugh at the furnishing... I would not reccoment this place to anyone unless you were desparate...Also noisy all nite depending on what room you are in...

“Blast from Past, Retro”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2009

I stayed here 3 nights in a cabin (smoking please) but they also have rooms. There's a gas station and convenience store across the street. And although there is a restaurant next door, most businesses were closing down at the time I stayed. Ellsworth is about 5 miles inland or the IGA 5 miles toward the coast.

Staff and cleaning persons were professional and friendly and helpful. Rates were competitive.

Beds: I slept well. Two rooms (no doors) each w/ full size bed, luggage racks & clothes hanging in each.

BATHROOM: Retrofitted with shower, small w/ bar soap provided. Shower spray is STRONG & HOT but H2O is hard. If you're fat like me seek roomier accomdations on-site or at other lodging vendors.

DEN: Counter with Sink. 3 chairs, lamp, "end table".

Anemities: TV w/ Cable, small refrig & microwave. Heater worked. NO CLOCK. NO PHONE. WiFi DO NOT WORK!

Great for Pet People.
Great for Families with low expectations.
Great for People who need to Hide.
Not for people with allergies.
Not for picky people.

I gave a POOR rating because the management lied about the reliability of the Wi-Fi which I depend on.

“very clean, excellent value and service.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 August 2009

I read all the reviews about this motel and I am writing my own. My wife and I and our 2 dogs stay at Acadia Gateway Motel every year. (usually twice a year) for the past 3 years. (ACADIA GATEWAY IS THE ONLY PLACE THAT WILL ALLOW YOU TO LEAVE YOUR PETS IN THE CABIN, leave your AC unit on) which is very helpfull when the two of you need to do things by yourselvs. The motel is family owned and run, It is clean with room service every day. It is located between Bar Harbor and Ellsworth. If you want a room (or a cattage if you are traveling with pets) then Acadia Gateway is the place for you.
