“Maine Delight”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 September 2011

This two room gem advertises itself as a vegetarian/vegan B&B. This should not dissuade the meat-eaters if fresh, organic, innovative, and just plain delicious matters. You won't gp hungry and you'll recognize everything offered in the diverse breakfasts served. The inn is a stone's throw from US Route 1 and Penobscot Bay in the historic midcoast town of Searsport, about half way between Camden and Bar Harbor. The inn keeper is generous with her time and counsel regarding the interesting things to see and do in the area, including the local Penobscot Marine Museum. Additionally, she has an insider's knowledge for avoiding traffic when day tripping to Acadia National Park. Clean, quiet, and attractively priced, this B&B is a peaceful oasis within an otherwise tourist intensive part of beautiful coastal Maine. Pet lovers will be particularly enamored with the innkeeper's four legged family. We enjoyed our experience.

“We loved it here!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 September 2011

My husband and I had a wonderful stay at Elm Cottage-- we only wish we had stayed longer. When we arrived, Janet welcomed us with tea and zucchini bread as well as activity and restaurant recommendations. We stayed in the gardenview room, which was large, clean, comfortable, and cozy. We used the free wifi to plan our days and looked forward to our delicious morning meals with Janet and the other guests.

“A warm, inviting stay with a fantastic vegan breakfast!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 August 2011

I cannot say enough wonderful things about our experience briefly staying at the Elm Cottage, a vegan / vegetarian Bed & Breakfast in Searsport, Maine (near Belfast). Meeting the proprietor Janet felt like getting back in touch with a long lost, caring relative. We were extremely late to arrive, and she waited up for us and even called to check on us, then escorted us up to our beautifully decorated room (with private shower/bathroom) for a peaceful evening in.

The next morning, we awoke to her kindness and a breakfast the likes of which I've never seen. Vegan eggs benedict with homemade jam, freshly baked muffins, hot tea and coffee, freshly picked blueberries, and more! Just thinking about it is making me hungry. Everything was a treat.

Janet introduced us to her various rescued pets around the house; her passion is clearly animal rescue! Her kind heart shines in everything she does, and every treasure in the house (from an original Alexander Calder serigraph to all kinds of interesting books!). We strolled around the grounds and indulged in Maine's beautiful coast, breathing the fresh air and enjoying the quiet.

We cherished our time at the Elm Cottage & would recommend any animal lover / vegan / vegetarian check it out for a totally unique B&B experience. Her clean, warm cottage was very inviting and helped make our cross-country trip very memorable. And I wish I had Janet's recipes!

“Phenomenal Getaway!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 June 2011

I do not have a negative thing to say about Elm Cottage. Everything was amazing from the cozy decor, friendly host, delicious and over-the-top breakfast and beautiful scenery! Janet is a excellent cook and the breakfast really was a feast. She's also very sweet and friendly, willing to help find things to do in the area, and overall, a very kind lady. She's not the type of host that will show you where your room is and then you don't see her until you leave. She makes your company feel appreicated. There is lots to do in the area. Nearby Belfast is a very cute old town with nice restaurants and spots to walk along the water. Acadia National Park is also just a short drive away and is very beautiful! I'd highly recomment Elm Cottage!

“PEACE AND JOY”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 July 2010

The Elm Cottage is quiet, welcoming, beautifully decorated, and surrounded by beautiful gardens. Two wonderfully comfortable rooms each with private bath and luxurious towels. Substantial breakfast. Vegetarian and vegan. Dogs and cats. Steps from water. Small restaurants and bookstore. And terrific marine museum as well as captain houses and library. Website offers lots of Maine information.
