“Great Rooms & Great Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 December 2011

people found this review helpful

We loved it! The rooms are excellent and squeaky clean. Breakfast is a meal to anticipate. Ed and Joan are great hosts.

But the best reason to stay here is location, location, location. Park your car when you arrive--you won't need it again until you leave Rockland. Shops, restaurants, cinema at a beautifully restored 1923 theater (http://www.rocklandstrand.com/), and the Farnsworth Museum (http://www.farnsworthmuseum.org/) are all just down the street. And did I mention Penobscot Bay? Go.

“Great location, very comfotable, a couple of quirks....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 November 2011

Loved the location of the Inn, the decor, and the plants are fantastic. While quite clean through out, and I must say we really appreciate the use of odor free natural cleaning products-- we were quite surprised to see months worth of dust on the ceiling fan above the bed, as well as cobwebs overhead. Not what I want to see while on my back daydreaming on a weekend getaway. Two more quirks, a reading lamp beside a cozy arm chair that could not be plugged in without disconnecting TV or cable.
That turned out no to matter so much, as the bathroom was so dark, we decided to put the lamp in there. Breakfast delicious! But watch out for the calories. We were thrilled with the effort and quality of gluten free selections. We would return, and we would recommend, in spite of the quirks!

Room Tip: Didn't see but our room overlooking harbor, and loved that, however don't forget to look up.

“Wonderful, Pet-Friendly B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 November 2011

We stayed at the Granite Inn with our little spaniel for three days in October at the beginning of a three week road trip in Maine and loved it so much we stayed here again on our way home. The inn is lovingly restored, the decor beautifully done while inviting and comfortable. The innkeepers, Ed and Joan, are friendly, gracious, knowledgable about the area and very generous with their time and advice on activities, restaurants, and area sites. The breakfasts are absolutely scrumptious- the best we had on our trip. The beds are very comfy. Waking up to the views and sounds of Rockland harbor was magical.
Our little dog was warmly welcomed and enjoyed his visit. Ed and Joan are not just tolerant of pets, but genuinely friendly toward them.
Rockland is a great little city and a convenient base for historical sites, museums, fantastic restaurants, island visits (The inn is at the head of the ferry landing for Vinalhaven, North Haven and Matinicus.)
We loved our stays at the Granite Inn and hope to be able to visit again before long.

Room Tip: We loved our room in the front of the inn, with a great view of Rockland Harbor. You can't go wr...

“Very Accomodating”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 November 2011

Ed and Joan worked with us to provide a courtesy discount at "the Inn" while taking an intensive two day beginner glass beading class at a studio right down the street.
It was a wonderful way to combine a stay at a lovely B & B, a more than complete breakfast beyond our imagination and a new adventure in the arts. We appreciated your hospitality and the awesome eats!! We'll be back to stay again, no question....Thank you Ed and Joan!!

Room Tip: Upstairs at the front for a harbor view would be nice...

“Best Bed and Breakfast By Far”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2011

Best breakfast: ginger scones with cranberry chutney, Quiche Lorraine with bacon, fresh fruit salad with raspberries and pineapple, fresh crab fritters and local eggs, coffee, organic teas. My room has a jacuzzi and warm, inviting furniture and linens. Lots of pretty throw pillows, Oriental rug, woodwork and beadboard, a cute "fireplace" and old fashioned radiator add to the charm and ambience. The front public rooms are inviting and airy with fireplace and comfy chairs.

My room came with samples of local olive oil and balsamic vinegar from a shop down the road. Ate them with fresh seeded baguette from Atlantic Baking Company. Enjoyed with complimentary beverages.

Hosts are extremely friendly, welcoming, and always have coffee, tea and interesting guests to mingle with if you wish. The finest bed and breakfast I've been to, and I can't wait for an excuse to return. Rockland is a great little city with lots of boutiques and little corner restaurants. This is a destination, not a spot to stay on the way to someplace else.

Room Tip: Rooms with jacuzzi are a nice touch.
