Crosswinds seems to be a small, bare-bones mom & pop. Rooms are small and cramped but the porch out front is generous and each room has it's own small patio table. From the 2nd level, rooms 14 and 15 have a view down the side street to the surf.
While mostly clean, there was massive dust hanging from the low ceiling fan and hiding inside the over-bed lamps. Maintenance of our unit was very shabby. The wooden threshold to the cramped shower stall was rotted. The wood paneling was warped. Carpet, sheets, towels were clean and in good condition.
The mini-fridge and microwave were fine. The 2-slice toaster didn't work. A toaster-oven would have been more useful. No alarm clock. No phone (not a problem in the cellphone era). I didn't see an air conditioner, just the ceiling fan. Glad it was fairly cool when we stayed there. Tiny TV. Cable was good.
The owner/operator wasn't friendly at all. But he did extend our checkout time as there was no-one waiting for our room. Owner said he provides parking and place to change if you head back to the beach one last time after checking out.
They do have Internet, but be sure to ask for the pass code when you check in.
We didn't try the pool, but it looked clean and well maintained
Anyone staying on the east (inland) side of Rte. 9 in Old Orchard Beach should be aware of the active Railroad tracks behind all the hotels (not just Crosswinds). Be prepared to be awakened three or four times a night.
