“Wonderful views overlooking historic New Harbor Maine with elegant accomodations.”

A Great Vacation

My husband, myself and our two adult children stayed at the Moorings for our annual two-week vacation at the end of September. We stayed in the Carriage House. Our initial response was very favorable and in many respects, it truly overwhelmed us. I say that because it was obvious that no expense had been spared. The layout of the space, the furnishings, bedding, right down to the art on the walls was first class. In fact, everything was carefully and tastefully done, all to promote our comfort. The Carriage House stands in dramatic contrast to so many other rentals that we have experienced in the midcoast area. Many of the other accommodations seem quickly and tastelessly thrown together with secondhand furniture and uncomfortable beds.

I am not in the habit of writing reviews about the places we have stayed but felt compelled to write this review because our stay was so wonderful. I chronicle our experiences in hopes that others may benefit from ours. Sally, the owner, was so hospitable and responsive to all our needs, but importantly, she showed a genuine caring and responsibility to her guests.

The amenities abound; one would not expect to find so many areas in the almost 15 to 20 acre site. There is an enclosed pool, hot tub, tennis court, billiards room, cable television, wireless internet throughout the complex. Most importantly, the grounds and plantings are beautiful. The views of the harbor and ocean are all different depending on the apartment you are renting. We thoroughly enjoyed our two week stay at the Moorings and have booked for next season.

It is a one of a kind place that captures the beauty and majesty of Maine.

“We learned the true meaning of relaxation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 August 2009

The Moorings in New Harbor is, in one word amazing. When we arrived we quickly forgot about our worries and stress and took in the incredible ocean view and comfortable accomodations. We stayed in the Gatehouse, the latest addition to the Moorings and were supremely impressed by the impeccable cleanliness and the very well-stocked kitchen. Everything that we needed was there, right down to coffee filters! We lucked out as our apartment was located right next door to their billiards room. We filled our days with swimming in the pool, soaking in the hot tub, playing tennis, barbecuing, and walking in lush gardens...and we never set foot in our car! Thank you to the owners for reminding us what it truly means to relax and get away.

“Gorgeous, cozy Maine escape”

Stayed here with 2 friends while up in Maine for a wedding and could not believe the spaciousness and value. It was incredibly clean with every amenity one could hope for(a pool, tennis court and professionally landscaped grounds) and the best sleep I have had in a long time, it is very quiet and peaceful with the most comfortable beds. We would all definitely recommend it!

“The Moorings, My Maine Home!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 July 2008

Our stay at The Moorings has been our Maine Dream come true. The morning fog rising over New Harbor was our real-life post card. Tony and Sally thought of every last detail to make our stay in Maine the best we have ever had. Each morning I would look up from my coffee and gaze into the postcard called New Harbor. Our apartment, The Barn, was more than just vacation lodging. It was our home along the Maine coast. My wife and I have dreamed about a Maine coast cottage vacation for years, now we feel like we have found our 'safe harbor'. We will return to take in the hospitality of The Moorings and the beauty of New Harbor many times.

We have just finished our 5th vacation at The Moorings and they just keep getting better. For the last two years we have stayed at The Brackett apartment. This downstairs apartment in the remodeled victorian style "captain's" house has the best view of New Harbor in the area. This year we stayed for 2 weeks and are considering even longer in the future. If waking up to a beautiful view of a working Maine harbor, making a pot of New England Blueberry coffee, walking up to the country store to buy a morning newspaper, fresh cranberry-walnut muffins (still warm enough to melt the butter,) watching the fog roll in or the eagles fly on the horizon, wandering through gardens beautiful enough to be considered one of Maine's botanical treasures, going for a leisurely swim in the elegant indoor pool or playing tennis on the immaculate tennis court and then taking a long time to decide which seafood restaurant tonight (or do you cook your own today?) and then relaxing to a quiet, peaceful New England night is your idea of heaven on Earth, then the Moorings is for you.

I have joked with Tony that The Moorings is like his personal, full-sized train set. He is constantly adding special touches and improving an already incredible facility.

My only hesitation in recommending The Moorings is that my wife and I want it to ourselves!!

  • Liked — The peacefulness and comfort. Also the hosts and the incredible view.
  • Disliked — Too short a visit.

“Enjoyed The Moorings Once Again”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 July 2008

Serene, tasteful, and relaxing. This captures for us the Moorings experience as return guests to their picture postcard setting in New Harbor. We've just ended a one week stay in their newly purchased and renovated "Gatehouse" bungalow. In its rooms and on its deck (with a view of harbor and ocean) everything is new and attractive, and just feels right, providing a minature vacation home, comfortable in every way. Since it's located at a Moorings entry point, it's closer to a town road and other private residences than most units, but the local traffic tended to disappear after 5:00.

The Moorings complex of apartments, spread over well tended grounds is like a village surrounding a New England Green. The relaxing indoor pool looks out on pines, and there's a good outdoor tennis court. This is a part of coastal Maine that has managed to maintain its identity and beauty. The Moorings helps you experience it.

Each unit is different, so view the Moorings web site for one that seems right for you. Two years ago we stayed in their "Barn" unit for two weeks. It has a great view from its deck overlooking the harbor and ocean beyond. This unit, on two floors, was relatively basic but the peacefulness and view made it special. Be willing to adjust to the bathroom being on the floor above the bedroom.

The Moorings is a good option for couples seeking a low key vacation, and who can commit to at least a one week stay. No children under 18. The owners, Tony and Sally, whose home is located on the grounds, are warm and friendly, professional and efficient.
