“This is a 'MUST DO'.”

If you want to have a totally different experience, away from the tourist experience and luxuriate in the beauty of nature this is a 'MUST DO'.
Diana is fabulous. She strikes just the right balance of helpful inn keeper and watchful adventure adviser, without that smothering B&B feeling.
And then there is her food: She cooks all of your meals! The only word is 'FANTASTIC'.
(you will want to hire her for a private event or take her as your personal chef).
The inn is small, so make your plans early.

Room Tip: try for the downstairs

“A Mom/Daughter vacation in Heaven was had at the Inn at Isle au Haut!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2010

Diana creates smells from the kitchen that entice the guests throughout the day. When the meals are served, there is no denying the accuracy of the wonderful smells - her cooking is fantastic! The beds are comfortable, the view is spectacular and the Inn is charming, cozy and very inviting. We thoroughly enjoyed sitting on the porch, reading a book and watching the butterflies and lobster boats pass by. This is the perfect place to unwind and breathe in a slice of Americana... home cooking, fresh air and a million dollar view were what we found in this wonderful place.

The Inn at Isle au Haut is so comfortable...a perfect hideaway...experiencing the ultimate in hospitality! Diana Santospago is the perfect hostess! Her genuine warmth is so inviting- you feel like you are home. She is so pleasant, paying attention to all details. The three gourmet meals that she prepares daily, demonstrate her fabulous culinary talents.

Isle au Haut is unspoiled and so beautiful! Actually it is the most pristine place we have ever been. And we keep returning!! It is serenity at it's best! A piece of paradise orchestrated by an amazing innkeeper, Diana!

“Amazing place for great views and food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 August 2010

My wife and I have stayed at many B&B's in the US and Europe, and we agree that this one stands apart.

The view from the inn is spectacular -- sitting on the porch, you will look out over the ocean while hummingbirds and butterflies flutter around you.

Although I had read the reviews, I was still amazed at the food. Breakfast and dinner are creatively cooked with fresh ingredients. Everything has a little twist, such as watermelon in the salad, or edible flowers served as a garnish. The food is plentiful and comes often (pre-breakfast, breakfast, lunch, pre-dinner, dinner), yet you will be delighted with each new course. Lunch is a simple but refreshing packed lunch, thoughtfully arranged for a day of hiking.

Overall, I would especially recommend the inn for younger couples that would like to hike during the day and relax in comfort and good food at night. We found that two nights was sufficient to cover the surrounding hiking trails. I would definitely stay two nights, possibly three. To access the trails, you will need to ride some old fat-tire, single-speed bikes, which could be seen as part of the charm, though I found the five miles of biking more tiring than the several miles of sometimes steep hiking. Although you must do some biking to get anywhere, the trails are gorgeous, and you can do as much or little as you like.

We stayed in one of the upstairs rooms with a shared bath, which was fine. I'd recommend the room with a private bath if it is available.

The description on the inn's website of "your stay" is very accurate, so if that looks good to you, you'll definitely be glad you stayed.

“An indelible memory!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2010

If you like the combination of relaxation, fine dining, and attention to detail, this is for you.
Although this is not easily accessible, it is worth the effort. Diana goes out of her way to make sure you are extremely well fed, to see it all and relax at the same time. A waterfront setting and Cadilac Mtn in the distance adds to the ambiance. Don't miss Acadia Nat'l Park. We kayaked from Stonington, but most guests take the ferry. A spot!
We can't wait to go back.
