“New Owners Have Created A Perfect Stay”

New owners, Joan and John, offer a welcoming and comfortable stay at the Blue Hill Farm Country Inn. Located at a scenic site near Blue Hill, the inn includes a large dining room where John, a professional chef, serves savory breakfasts. Both hosts make an extra effort to ensure your comfort. For example, Joan offered us a pot of tea when we arriveed. Since Joan and John were raised in the area, they are always happy to provide travel advice for day trips on the Blue Hill Peninsula. In addition, WiFi is now available throughout the premises. The Blue Hill Farm Country Inn is highly recommended.

“lots of character but misses the boat”

We stayed at the Inn for two nights in the summer of 2008. It was a disappointment. The dining area and tiny rooms do have character, but were missing some simple straight-forward details that would have made it more comfortable. The biggest problem was the lack of ability to lock your room when you are absent, which we found to be a bizarre and unnecessary security risk. You can lock it with a deadbolt from inside the room, and while the deadbolt has a key hole from the outside no key was provided. We asked about this and the host said, "We haven't had a problem in 25 years". No wonder, because other guests probably have done the same thing we did: we carried all of our important things back out of the room left them in our vehicle, leaving absolutely nothing of value in the room, which was a huge pain, but the only way we felt secure.

The room was scrupulously clean, but tiny with only just over a foot's clearance on one side of the bed and, once the suitcase was set up, little more on the other. Furnishings were one small dresser, two lamps, and a small table and chair, but there wasn't enough room to actually sit on the chair. One of the lamps had a bare, oversize bulb with no shade that made it very hard on the eyes and also touched the pull mechanism. This mean the pull got VERY hot, making turning the lamp off a risky business. This lamp also was not properly balanced and fell over if you brushed it. It was impossible to use.

Breakfast was ok: muffins (one each), cold cereal / granola, yogurt, OJ, fruit, and tea or coffee. There were no freshly baked breads or cheese as indicated on the website.

There was no wifi available at the inn, which we did not expect, but given the room price would be a fairly small addition for the hosts to make and would have improved our experience tremendously.

The inn was ok but given the problems did not deliver for the price ($115/night). The major, major issue was the lack of room key, since that raised security issues for me personally. I do not want other guests to have the ability to enter my room in my absence. This security risk is definitely a strong reason not to go back, and nothing else was remarkable in any way that could make up for this big omission.

“Cozy and welcoming”

I have spent quite a bit of time in Blue Hill because I have relatives who live there, so I know of all the Inns/B&Bs - when this visit came up, there was a full house at my relations, so I offered to stay offsite. The Blue Hill Farm Country Inn is a gracious, relaxed B&B with about 7 rooms located about a mile from Blue Hill village, which itself is absolutely charming, with terrific restaurants, shops, etc. It is a renovated barn, with a large downstairs sitting area/breakfast space which is quite comfortable if you're either reading or having breakfast. The rooms are small, but very comfortable, and the bathrooms are up to date with good showers, etc. Breakfast is mostly continental with the addition of home-baked muffins which were great. Staff was very pleasant and welcoming. There were families staying there when I was and they also seemed to very much enjoy the space. Would return if I had the need to find lodging in the area.
