“serene & beautiful retreat”

We stayed at Crocker Pond House for 3 days/nights in January, and had a lovely time. There were lovely views of the snow-covered fields and woods from our rooms, as well as the main living area, where we spent a lot of time lounging about in front of the fireplace, chatting, reading magazines & playing with the two (very friendly) cats. The building is thoughtfully designed and well-situated, and the rooms are spacious, clean and warm. Stuart & Ellen were fantastic hosts, and provided us with hearty & delicious breakfasts (including cardamom-flecked waffles with lingonberry jam!) as well as snowshoes for tramping around on the trails starting outside their doorstep. It's also only about a 15 minute drive to Sunday River, and 10 minutes to the town of Bethel. Just about perfect for a winter getaway into snowy Maine.

“Architectural gem in the Maine countryside”

Stuart Crocker is an architect who designed and built a shingle-style house on 50 rural acres that he and his wife Ellen now operate as an ecologically responsible B&B. The interior is immaculately decorated in earth tones, with thoughtful features -- a southeast orientation to attract maximum sunlight, down comforters, a floor-to-ceiling library, family-style bedrooms with climb-up lofts for the kids (large or small), walk-out patios -- that set it apart from the run-of-the-mill country inn. Scenic hiking trails on the property and beyond, plus proximity to the White Mountains and the Sunday River ski resort, make this spot the perfect four-season getaway. We hope to return soon!

I really have no complants. The owners Ellen and Stuart are just a pleasure and really make you feel comfortable. The house is gorgeous as well as the surrounding area. A great place if you want to get away from it all. We are already planning to stay again next year. Highly recommended.

“Beautiful Inn”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 September 2010

Each year a group of five couples picks an inn to vacation. My wife and I were the persons picking the inn this year and we settled on the Crocker Pond House. We first visited it last October for one night to check it out and immediately knew we would bring the group here for our vacation at the end of summer. Ellen and Stuart are very warm and friendly and the house, designed Stuart, is modern, very beautiful, and situated in a wonderful wooded area.

Our week's stay was wonderful. We rented the entire inn, with the five couples in the five rooms. The rooms are of adequate size and very clean and comfortable. The breakfasts are very good, especially the blueberry pancakes. The weather was unusually hot but with the fans provided by our hosts sleeping, even on the second floor, was comfortable.

There is a pond on the property which we used for swimming-- especially useful in the hot weather we had. There are hiking trails on the extensive wooded property and along the Androscoggin River which is very close by. Bethel, about 10 minutes, has excellent dining and is a center for many outdoor activities. There are no TV's in the rooms or elsewhere--hurray!! But there is wi-fi. There is plenty of room to sit and read in the large living room or on the decks. Highly recommended.

I couldn't recommend Crocker Pond House highly enough. Stuart and Ellen are great hosts and made us feel like family, it was tough to leave after 4 days. The house immediately made me feel relaxed, and the surrounding woods and pond made a scene like you'd see on a postcard. I hope I get a chance to visit again one day.
