“Promised more than it delivered”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2011

Reading some of the other reviews the biggest issue seemed to be quite inflexible. Admittedly we had not read some of the fine print i.e. check-in time. But the window of three hours seems quite limited as we like to stop off at places on the way to our chosn desitnation and not feel like we have to rush to get there. I did phone ahead to provide an ETA but was told that the paperwork stated what time we had to be there. After a few minutes he admitted he was winding me up - not funny at the time, still not certain it was just a joke. When we arrived the guy also gave the impression that people generally were putting him out, especially if they did not turn up when he specified. This inflexibility also spilled over to the designated breakfast slot of 8-9. Not a problem, and in fairness breakfast was pretty good, but when you are on holiday you don't want to be told when you can do things because of narrow windows of opportunity.

The rooms were extremely generous in their space and had everything that was needed (by us). But as whole the place was quite deceptive. Whilst it looked quite nice from the outside, it is not really by the bay/beach, but you get a decent view from afar. Whilst the place is easily accessible as it it right on the "1" it is a fair drive in to Belfast so not conveniently located for the town. Maybe some generous marketing has gone in to the place.

Whilst I cannot quibble about the value for money, the attitude "thing" is something that needs addressing whether the owner perceives as a joke or not.

“A good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2011

We had two rooms; 7A on the front downstairs and 14 on the back downstairs, both in the newer building that does not have the restaurant in it. I didn't think the road noise was an issue at all. I can only imagine that the people complaining about road noise must be incredibly light sleepers. We were there on Monday and Tuesday night so we did not get to eat dinner at the inn. We are told by our Belfast relatives that it is a very good place to eat. The breakfast was hot and tasty and cheerfully served. The rooms have a refrigerator in them. I thought the rooms were fine. The were large, airy and furnished adequately. No they were not modern but neither is Belfast Maine. Housekeeping was lackluster. She made the bed and replaced towels and that is about it; no wiping off the bathroom sink or sweeping/vacuuming. I thought the ironic thing was that there is a tip envelope for the maid. I left $2 the first day before seeing her cleaning. The second day she got nothing. Wifi is only in the main building in the lobby/restaurant area. I wish they would expand the breakfast hours a little bit. 8-9am is a little inflexible.

Room Tip: I suspect the new building will have quieter rooms since there is no kitchen in that building.

“Great B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2011

This B&B located in Belfast, Maine is a real bargain. Rooms range from $64 to $119. We took the $79 room as it was one of the only ones available. King size bed, real comfy, and a friendly staff. Quiet setting with a partial view of the bay. The attached restaurant was a super value with dinner for 2 at $30 including a glass of wine and a large portion dinner. We had the London broil and the prok chop. One of the best meals we had in our week in Maine and the best value. Would stay there again if travelling to that part of Maine. Only about an hour drive from Acadia NP and less than half the prices of other places we stad during our trip.ye

Room Tip: Any room is a bargain. No elevator so if you don't want to climb the stairs get a first floor...

“Great Night's Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 September 2011

My husband and I stayed for one night - owner was very friendly. Rooms were small - just fine for the both of us, clean, no complaints. We were a bit early and waited out back for our room to be ready - the owner personally came to get us once everything was all set. Breakfast the next morning was fantastic. I would recommend and stay again.

“Would never stay here again, but would try the restaurant”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 September 2011

I am amazed at the high rating of this Inn by other travelers. I stayed here and was horribly disappointed at the condition of the room. There were no tissues in the bathroom (holder was empty) light on the nightstand was broken, coffee pot was dirty which tells me the housekeeping is sloppy. The carpet was very dirty, bed was hard and sheets and quilt were worn and tired looking.

No information in the rooms about what time to check out or local attractions. No information about breakfast (which i only served from 8-9. So you're out of luck if you want to sleep in...) Menu to restaurant looked very reasonably priced and had nice selections. Unfortunately, I would never return here. I too, found the staff upon check-in to be pre-occupied and somewhat brusque. Not handicap friendly - big set of outdoor metal stairs to climb - I'm glad my mother wasn't with me, she would not have been able to make it up the stairs.

Room Tip: Stay elsewhere and eat dinner here
