“Run By two Great Ladies”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 August 2008

I never had more fun with hosts (hostesses?) of a B and B as I did conversing and chatting with the two Ladies running this place. The food (breakfast) were of gourmet-quality and the room that I stayed in was breathtakingly beautiful (as is the whole inn). Trish and MaryEllen are terrific hosts and great people. I recommend this with the highest praise. Thanks ladies for making our time with you so much fun!

“Simply The Best”

Keith and Maureen UK
We arrived as strangers to Belfast and Harbor View House, but after meeting Mary Ellen and Trish we felt we were leaving as friends.. They were friendly, helpful and informative with a great sense of humour. All this without being intrusive. The rooms are very stylish and comfortable and furnished in keeping with the history of the house. There is a library of information, travel books etc. plus a large selection of VCR tapes for the use of guests. The house is in a quiet location within easy walking distance to the centre, and has a great view from the outside deck As others have commented, breakfast is an event not to be missed; as Brits we know about cooked breakfasts, but theirs is something else. And homemade afternoon cookies. We spent 3 weeks touring New England and this place was easily the best place we stayed so good we stayed 5 days.

The town of Belfast has a comfortable, slightly old-fashioned feel to it. Within walking distance, there are several restaurants and bars serving a range of food. The local boat trip is well worth taking with good chances to see porpoise and harbour seals.

We wish we could visit more often but the UK is a little too far for a weekend break!

We stayed for 4 nights and had a great stay! This big old house has is beautifully kept, has a great view of Penobscot Bay from the spacious back patio and the breakfasts are to die for! A true homemade gormet feast that will hold you well into the afternoon! This was among the nicest inns we've stayed at during our many trips to Maine and you can bet we'll be back for sure!

“Better than we could have ever imagined!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 August 2006

We booked our reservation at the recommendation of a "friend of a friend" and couldn't have been more satisfied with our stay. The rooms are tastefullly decorated, each with a historic theme. We stayed in the Joshua Chamberlein room which provided a spectacular view overlooking the harbor and the famous red boats of Belfast. The first morning I awoke to the foghorn - what a trip for an Illinois girl like me! Each room has a fireplace, which would have been welcome had it not been for our unseasonably high temperatures that summer. The food was scrumptious. We stayed 4 nights and each breakfast was original and beautifully presented. Had we not been in Maine to visit friends we would have enjoyed nothing more than to relax on the large porch all day or visit the boutiques at the historic downtown just a few blocks away. Trish and Mary Ellen rock!

  • Liked — The Maine experience.
  • Disliked — The water pressure in the bathroom.
