We booked this hotel online to travel as a family for a short getaway to New Orleans right before Christmas. The online special was great, maybe since it was near the holidays. I called to book by phone, since there are times that speaking to staff can give an even better deal. The lady completing the reservations was nice, and she said we would have a larger room near the pool.
Our stay was nice and average. Here is the breakdown:
We liked:
1. Complimentary breakfast in the morning. Coffee, juice, water, cereal, muffins, bagels, toast, eggs, biscuits, gravy, yogurt (only once though during our few days there), waffle maker.
2. Complimentary popcorn, coffee, and water in the dining area every evening. A plus when you have children.
3. Nice outdoor pool and pretty courtyard, but we didn't swim in December.
4. Easy to get to from the Interstate.
5. Near many businesses like Target, Barnes & Noble, and grocery stores. Across the street from a nice mall, although we would suggest driving there, since the street is quite wide and a lot of traffic is waiting to get onto the interstate.
6. Pleasant front desk staff and cleaning staff. The dining staff seemed indifferent.
7. Comfortable enough to recommend for a short stay at a good price.
8. Only 8-10 minutes away from New Orleans attractions.
We weren't sure about/didn't like:
1. We didn't seem to have a larger room, as promised. If this was the larger room, then those other rooms must have been extremely small. But we could suggest it for parent(s) and a couple of young children.
2. Also we did not realize this wasn't a full service hotel. By that, I mean our room wasn't serviced everyday (at the least, towels replaced and garbage taken out), which we thought was standard. We had to call everytime we returned to our room to have these minimal things done. Once we asked for a few more towels, and we were asked to come to the front desk to get them. The staff were very friendly however.
3. A little picky, but they could use another waffle maker or so. When it gets crowded, or one person is making waffles for everyone in their family, you can forget about making one. Unless you want to sit for an hour or more eating breakfast.
4. This can be a pro or con or neither, according to your preference. Most of the rooms were not inside the hotel but adjoined it after walking down a short sidewalk. These rooms all opened inward to a courtyard with a pool. There are a couple of "hallways" that you can cut through to the parking lot. So if you prefer to stay indoors in a hotel, they may have a few rooms, but be sure to ask.
Overall, we would recommend this place if you are looking for a short stay for family or business.
