Stayed one night as part of a summer vacation. The room was clean and fairly quiet. The hotel is less than 15 minutes from the Louisville airport, Kentucky Kingdom, and the State Fairgrounds. Additionally, Stella, the person working front desk when we checked out, was friendly and extremely professional. Would give the hotel a better rating if it were not for the issues we encountered checking in.
Although several events, including the State Fair, were occurring in the area, the hotel appeared to have only one person serving the front desk and housekeeping requests. The person working the desk was nice and tried to be helpful, but he was obviously overwhelmed. During the checking in process, the clerk responded to inquiries about hotel availability as well as guest towel/room service requests. After he returned from responding to a guest request, we still could not be checked in because of an apparent computer shutdown. When the computer system became operational, the clerk assigned us the wrong room type. After two inquiries about the room he assigned us, he realized his error and corrected it. By this time, I was beginning to wonder if making a reservation at this hotel had been a good idea. Unfortunately, the problems were just beginning.
When we arrived at the room, the door was unlocked and ajar. The lights, however, in the room were turned off and the room was unoccupied. Moreover, there were several guys drinking beer and smoking on the walkway near the room. They did not seem surprised the door was already open. It was unnerving. We called the front desk clerk about the problem and he moved us to another room.
We stayed in this hotel about a year ago. The neighborhood around the hotel is a bit "sketchy", but at that time we felt safe in the hotel. Definitely did not feel safe this time.
