“Convenient to 4th Street, Cheap and No Frills, Okay for a place to sleep”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2011

This hotel is cheap and convenient to downtown, esp. 4th street if you're just looking for a place to crash. I stayed there one night, so what was offered was enough for the time I was going to be there. It is right next door to a Papa John's pizza place, and a Shell gas station is across the street. It is about 3 blocks to 4th street. Close enough to walk even if the weather is bad. It has a mini-fridge and microwave, ironing board and iron, and a small closet in the TV armoire.

“A great alternative to the more expensive downtown hotels”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2010

I spent one night here before going across the street to the Marriott where a business conference I was attending was being held. I would recommend this motel to anyone as a less expensive alternative to the convention hotels (Marriott, Hyatt, etc.) in downtown Louisville. I stayed on the first floor and was able to park right outside my door. The room had a fridge, was very clean and modern (if a bit small) and had free wi-fi, whereas the Marriott charges for wi-fi. If I was paying out of pocket to attend a conference at the Marriott, the Hyatt or the convention center, I think I'd stay here and save some money. In fact, next time I have a conference at the Marriott I may stay here on my employer's dime, save them some money, and earn some Choice Privileges points for myself.

“Adequate stay - not crisp but not too dirty”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 July 2010

We had a good night's sleep in the quiet, well insulated room. The making of the bed was a bit sloppy but the sheets were clean. The bathtub did appear to have been rinsed but not really scrubbed so the floor of the bath looked a little discolored. I wore my water shoes, just in case. All in all, it was a fine place to sleep, just not quite up to my personal standards of cleanliness. The complimentary breakfast area was clean and the food was basic, but it did help us get a nice start the next morning. I am borderline on the recommendation, but if you are trying to find a affordable place to stay over, I think this one just makes the cut.

“If you're looking to save money, you've found the right place!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 July 2010

Nothing special about this hotel and we knew that when we booked it. We planned on going to 4th Street Live and being out late drinking, so all we really needed was a place to shower and sleep. The prices at other downtown hotels was ridiculous! Why pay more if this is all you need...right?

It's just 2 blocks from downtown and in a good area so we weren't scared to walk around at night. I would advise, however, that you go out or bring your own breakfast. We got up the first morning for the free breakfast and honestly, I wouldn't touch what they had laid out. Their pics show a waffle maker in the breakfast area...but there's not one there now : ( . So we went out for breakfast that morning and slept until checkout the next.

The rooms were clean looking. The linens were clean too. The carpet however was dirty. My socks looked NASTY after walking around in them for just half the day. There's a mini-fridge and a micro in the room that's not mentioned on the website; so that was a plus. The beds were nice...kinda wiggley, but they slept well : )

All in all it was a good stay. If we go to this same area in the future, I would definitely stay here again.

“Inexpensive hotel - convenient to convention center”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 July 2010

I stayed at the Econo Lodge while attending a conference at the convention center. It was definitely very convenient to the convention center--about a five minute walk. The room was acceptable--it was clean and well-kept, though it did have a slight odor. The king size bed was comfortable and the room included a microwave and mini refrigerator.

The continental breakfast was average for similar hotels. Items available included cereal, toast, bagels, pastry, english muffins, eggs, and juice.

For the most part the service was good. I asked for a late check out and was given until noon to check out. However, when I came back from the conference to my room at 11 AM they were cleaning out my room and had removed my personal possessions. It turned out the employee who had told me I had a late check out had checked me out on the computer, so the cleaning staff thought I was out of the room.

I can recommend this room to value-minded travelers like myself. Just make sure to double check with the front desk on a late check out.
