We were on our way home for Florida and we decided to stop at this hotel overnight. We stopped because of the location being close to the Outlet shopping. In looking around the hotel it appears to have had some renos completed and they were still working on some stuff.
Upon our check in on March 17, 2011 we were greeted by a very nice lady who assigned us two rooms since we were travelling with 5 people in our party. We were assigned room 218 (double beds) and room 221 (queen beds).
The hotel appears to have new wallpaper, nice breakfast area, nice comfortable beds with lots of pillows, new towels and linens with no stains. There is lots of great Outlet shopping in the area. The hotel also has new owners and new staff.
Later that evening while visiting room 221 I picked up the phone to request a wake up call. The phone cord was not working and was very doggy by being loose. I managed to fix it to make the call to the front desk. When I was done I made sure the phone had a dial tone. I requested a 6:15 wake up call for room 218 and a 6:30 wake up call for room 221. My husband decided to set the alarm clock in our room just in case. We wanted to be on the road by 7:15 am. Unfortunately we did not get the wake up calls. Upon further investigation in the am the General Manager reported that room 218 did not have a working phone and a note was posted on the front counter with another room number listed. My mother and mother-in-laws room did not get there call and they did not even have an alarm clock in the room. The General Manager was very good about the issue and corrected the situation accordingly. I am thankful that I was not counting on this to be woken up for a business meeting.
Room 221 was very clean, comfortable and nice.
Room 218 was comfortable and nice. The carpet had a lot of stainage on it. The shower head was in one setting which was very hard. We felt like we were hit by the flow of the water at Niagara Falls.
My concerns about this hotel are as follows:
- The Elevator permit sign had the Holiday Inn name on it. The Holiday Inn and Quality Inn hotels are not linked. My concern is when was the elevator last inspected. A huge oversight on the part of the new owners and a serious violation where I come from. (see photo)
- In customer service 101 there is a way to say things in a positive way to get your message across. However this hotel had 6-8 signs posted by the pool (under renovations) that I felt were very unprofessional and very alarming. The letter to guests is threatening and condescending. It appears that the hotel has had trouble with teams in the past but to post this type of notice is extremely unprofessional. There are ways to get your message across without insulting guests. This is a situation where the owners and general manager need to have a clause on the registration form that guest sign regarding the rules. It is also a situation where the new owners and general manager need to train staff to deal with situations as they arise. If the party is disturbing the guests and a warning has been given. The guests refuse to leave the property then the police need to intervene. See the photo attached.
