Arriving in Danville last Monday, I was at first disappointed to find that the Comfort Suites and Hampton Inn were full almost every night I needed to be there. So glad they were or I'd never have found the Quality Inn.
The unexpected pleasures began at the front desk. Even though the manager had just undergone pretty major surgery and could not stand to greet me, we had a lovely conversation and he's a super guy. The lady at the front desk was also friendly, helpful, and efficient.
I asked for a king room and got a king mini-suite. In room refrigerator. Microwave available at the front desk. Bed was GREAT! Best night's rest I'd had in a while. I was on the first floor near the lobby. Awakened to the smell of bacon the next morning. Yum! Breakfast is best of any Quality Inn I've ever stayed in. Biscuits, eggs, and bacon or sausage are staples. Also all kinds of fresh fruit, yogurt, various things you can toast, coffee, juice, etc. And they probably have a waffle iron since it's a "choice" property but I'm so bored with those I didn't even look for it. Most hotels I just eat a breakfast bar in the room and seldom grace a breakfast outlay with my presence. Ate breakfast every single day I was there. It was always hot and fresh and fabulous in every way.
Also want to touch on how clean my room was. As a person who travels for a living and is super allergic to things like air fresheners and harsh detergents, I define a room as clean if I only have to wash the air filters on the AC/heat unit and dust with Lemon Fresh Pledge to get the room tolerable for occupation by myself. I didn't even have to clean the AC filter in this hotel and never took my Pledge out of its secret pocket in my suitcase. I also carry scrubbing bubbles in that same pocket. Didn't need them. The room was as clean as any room I have ever been in anywhere, and I include Hilton properties and 4 and 5 star premiere resorts in that statement. I couldn't believe the only way I found this Quality Inn was by other properties in town being full. It should have been my first choice and forever more will be when I am visiting Danville, KY.
If I must enter any caveat at all, it's one that will only be applicable for less than a month from the date I am writing this (May 15, 2011 -- and I just left the hotel less than 48 hours ago). Up until sometime in April 2011, this hotel was a Holiday Inn Express. Appears to me that all of the interior renovations are complete. They are still working on a few minor exterior renovations and one major renovation -- none of which were any inconvenience or bother during my stay. The major renovation is the pool. It is closed for resurfacing and the fence around it is being rebuilt. The manager and I chatted about it one day as I returned to my room for the evening. The goal is to have it open by Memorial Day but there's been a lot of rain in that part of KY so they may run a bit behind schedule on that. So if you are booking a room here between now and, I'd say, mid-June of 2011 and a pool is of supreme importance to you, ask about that before booking. The manager is super sharp and meticulous. I'm certain the pool will be gorgeous upon completion of repairs.
Room Tip: Just ask for what you want.
