We have been to Corbin on several other occasions passing through - this time we decided to stay a night and see the Cumberland Falls the next day. This hotel was the first one we pulled into. We had a coupon book we had just picked up at the rest area, but had decided to see what the regular rate was. So my husband tucked the coupon in his pocket and we went in to ask about the rate for a night. We were given the price of the night which was $10.00 higher than the coupon. We then asked about the coupon. The worker seemed put out with us and said that she could have refused us a room because we didn't present the coupon immediately. I wish she would have! I was a little upset at what I perceived to be rudeness. I believe that it is our right to ask what the regular price is before or after presenting a coupon. We had not declared our intention of staying one way or the other. We were simply "ASKING" what the price was. I think she realized she upset me and seemed to be trying to smooth things over. She changed from refusing us a room to lecturing us that AAA was no deal and that we should always present a coupon if we have it, as it is the cheapest rate we will get. Again, she seemed to be trying to smooth things over at this point. Then without asking if we actually wanted a room, which I did not, she proceeded to check us in - as if now we had no choice. Our fault, we should have walked out, but trying to forgive and forget, we let ourselves be bullied into taking a room. We did not notice this hotel took pets until we were in our room. We were only asked about our preference for smoking. Upon entering the hallway to the room a horrible smell hit us. On top of this unclean smell was also cigarette smoke. We were given a non-smoking room right next to a smoking room. The room was very small. It was very dusty and smelled stale. When we pulled back the blanket to the bed, the bed had hair and dander in it. We then noticed pet hair all over the room. We slept in our clothes on top of the bed covers. My husband had to take an allergy pill so he could breathe for the night. We should have left the hotel and cut our losses. But figuring, we would not get a refund as the front desk clerk had already been difficult, we chose to make due and leave as early as possible next morning. Next evening we stayed at a Quality Inn in Abingdon with a very nice hostess. Our room was very clean and we were treated with respect. I will now be staying with Quality in the future.
