“Roses Bates Motel”

I wish we would have read these reviews before we went on our trip. Becase after we left we dubbed it Roses Bates Motel. Jon was sort of nice but quiet, we never actually saw Mona but we heard about her and she made us a desert that Jon brought out. The desert was good and the breakfasts pretty good too. Mona also made a gift basket full of trinkets such as a "Love Clapper" and football coin purse, all a bit random. The outside of the place was exactly as described by other reviewers, broken down cars and unkept lawn. I'm surprised no one has mentioned the five mangy little dogs, I think they were a big part of the off smell of the place. They had a T.V room for guests but Jon always seemed to be in there watching it which made it uncomfortable, especially when we could hear another T.V blaring from what we assumed was where Mona was doing her thing. I think they tried to make it nice but just sorta missed the mark.

“Stay away....stay far away”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 July 2007

I booked this b&b for a weekend getaway with my husband. I talked to Mona directly several nights before we were to arrive and even sent in a small deposit that they asked for. However, when we got there, we found the outside of the house to be run down, planks on the front porch, a broken down car in the front, and several other cars in the driveway. This worried us, because this was not what was represented on their website. We decided to give it a chance and go on and stay there.....we were only going to be there a night or maybe two. We knocked on both the front and side doors, and was greeted by no one. We attempted to get someone's attention for 10 minutes and then returned to our car. I used our cell phone to call, and no one answered. I left a message with our phone number on how to reach us when they returned. We decided to visit Mammoth Cave in the meantime, hoping that we would get a call before entering or after entering. This was not to be. After 3-4 hours of waiting, we went back to the b&b to see if someone was there. Nope. At this point, it was getting a little late, we were getting extremely frustrated, and we left to go to Louisville to try to salvage what was left of our long weekend.

Be cautious when booking. We were lucky and were only out a small deposit.

“Fantastic Bed & Breakfast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 April 2007

My husband and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary at this peaceful and wonderful bed and breakfast. After having read the first two reviews on this site, we were somewhat concerned, but I called John and Mona to discuss our concerns and after talking with them decided to keep our reservations. I am so glad that we made the right decision. Rose Manor is an older home..yes...scary.,..no...and the care and attention shown by John and Mona made us feel very special...like a queen and king...just as promised on their website.

If you are in the area, we highly recommend this bed and breakfast! If we get down that way again, believe me we will stop in and stay awhile!

I wish them many more successful years doing what they love to do...making their guests feel special!

“A Scary Place to Stay”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 November 2006

My wife had booked us a honeymoon weekend stay at Rose Manor after surfing the net, as I work away from home a lot this seemed a good bet and was fairly close to home. Before leaving we had reviewed the website and seen the pictures etc (I would imagine the pics were at least 4 years old). Upon pulling up outside we were shocked at the general appearance of the property. It was dark, gloomy and a little menacing looking to say the least, and it was still dayight. There were broken down cars in the drive way and the house next door was taped off looking to be ready for demolition. My wife suggested we kept going but I said lets give it a chance saying it may be nice inside. Oh how wrong could one be. Sadly the inside was worse, dark was an understatement, I had only visited a funeral parlour as a young child and this brought those memories flooding back. We were greeted pleasantly enough and shown to our room, which was clean but dated. We decided to go for a drive and see what the area had to offer before returning for our special appertizer evening. This was a joke, it consisted of pizza rolls, crackers, carrots, grapes and cheese, oh and a few chocolates served on what was advertised as an antique serving platter (being British I can appreciate an antique when I see one but this was not one of those times and no sign of our celebrationary Champagne). The next two hours was spent in our bathroom plotting our escape from what we now called Rose Red (Steven King) Luckily a new Hotel had just opened a mile down the road which had vancancies (one less now) We Escaped!
Summary: Not for the faint hearted, run down and expensive (well for what they wanted)
Newly weds - Stay clear.

“Reminded me of the psycho house”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 August 2006

I planned on staying at the rose manor for my first anniversary. I viewed their website and spoke with the owners several times before booking my stay and felt confident that it would be a great weekend. Boy, was I mislead. When we first drove up to the house I thought we were in the wrong spot. It was described to me as a beautiful victorian house in a neighborhood safe enough to walk in alone at night. Let me tell you what it really looked like... It was a run down old house in a run down old neighborhood. The house next door was abandoned with broken in windows and doors and the rest of the neighborhood did not look much different (Not a place to walk at night). The actual property itself was in horrible condition. there was a broke down old lincoln sitting in the front yard and more cars in the drive way. The yard was all over grown, the porch and furniture was falling apart and much of the paint was peeling and cracking. (I was scared before we even went in) The inside was cluttered and lit only by candles and it smelled funny. The room looked clean but we did not stick around long enough to know for sure. The property was grosely misrepresented and they would not give any portion of our deposit back. It was a horrible experience and I would not reccommend wasting your money.
