“Hansen Cottage - A gem!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 June 2011

My 3 children and I stayed here and we LOVED IT!! All the reviews were spot on in terms of cleanliness, spaciousness and just plain coziness! It is a lot bigger than we thought and the woodwork is spectacular! It is close to the park, yet still quiet and peaceful. Becky was a gracious hostess and we wouldn't stay anywhere else if we returned.
Also, you are right down the road from Mammoth Cave Adventures where we enjoyed horseback riding and zip line tours--a must-do in addition to the Mammoth Cave tour itself.

“Hanson Cottage Perfect for 2 Couples”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 September 2010

I'm also reviewing the cottage next door run by the Wayfarer's B&B.

My wife and I and my brother and sister-in-law stayed for two nights during a trip to see Mammoth Cave and the bourbon trail.

We were kind of expecting a small cabin, but this cottage was much bigger, cleaner and better-equipped, a really good value for two couples.

The kitchen has everything you need except the food of course. We did our evening cooking on the charcoal grill outside on the patio, and breakfast inside. All the pots and pans and cooking utensils are provided.

There are two rooms with double beds. The beds are kind of small and not super-comfortable for a big guy like me, but it's not a B&B so we weren't expecting too much.

The location is perfect, right outside Mammoth Cave National Park. You can walk into the park and do a short little trail to where a guy named Floyd got stuck. The drive to the big tours is about 10-15 minutes. (we did Historic and New Entrance, two good complementary tours)

The Canoe/kayak rentals are run by the same people across the street. They were busy shuttling people to the Green River but we didn't have time to try that. But it would be very convenient if you wanted to do some paddling.

Not much in the way of restaurants near the Wayfarer, or anywhere around Cave City really. Best to BBQ yourself. We also had to drive 30 minutes to a non-dry county just to get a bottle of wine and a 6-pack, so plan ahead if you want to drink.

“LOVED IT!!! So glad we stayed here!”

Spacious cottage (really a house) with a couple rooms upstairs for our daughter to sleep/play/get-out-of-our-hair in. Bedroom with large closet for us. Two bathrooms, a kitchen, fireplace, living room, indoor sun room, a grill out back, air, fridge, stove, microwave, dvd player and more. LOVED IT! Right across the street from the canoe livery, just around the bend from the zip line and practically kissing the Mammoth Cave State Park. Clean, neat and economical. Saved money by buying groceries and making our own breakfast, lunch and dinner. Lots of spaces to be together or get away from each other on a long family trip. Couldn't believe our good fortune in finding this place.

“Hanson Cottage was more than Expected”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 July 2010

This review is not on the rooms in The Wayfarer B&B, but of the Hanson Cottage which is right next door. The cottage is run by the inkeepers, but the breakfast is not included.

I'll admit I was initially wary of booking the cottage since there were no photos online, and only one review of the B&B on Trip Advisor. I felt better after speaking to Becky on the phone. She was also very accommodating when I called back a couple of months later and less than two weeks before our reservation to drop one night since we had some modifications to our travel plans.

The Hanson Cottage was much better than we expected. Yes, it was quite old on the outside (although still in good shape), but the inside was less than two years old. The floors were hard-wood, the beds were comfortable (there's also a bed upstairs that's not mentioned on the website), the seating was comfortable, the decorations were quite pleasant.

There were plenty of cooking utensils and place settings. The only thing out of place was that a few older kitchen cabinets had been used, presumably to save money on the remodel. While slightly odd looking, it didn't take away from the functionality of the cabin.

The cabin has central A/C, as well as an auxiliary A/C unit upstairs.

The cabin (and B&B) is literally next to the National Park. Looking out the sunroom window, the National Park is only about five feet away. The Sand Cave was only a 0.3 mile walk. (You can't enter the Sand Cave). It was only about a 10 minute drive to the Welcome Center.

“A quiet and charming bed and breakfast - perfect for relaxing.”

Our stay at the Wayfarer Bed and Breakfast was planned as a convenient location to spend the night after a long day of kayaking on the Green River. As it turned out, it felt more like a mini-vacation. Our room was charming - filled with antiques, lovely art, and a basket of assorted healthy foods for a continental breakfast in the morning. The owners provide a wonderful service for those who canoe and kayak - they'll take your vehicle to the location where you want to end your river trip, then drive you up river to the starting point of your choice. There are several rooms, plus a cottage for an entire family, or group rental. There are great restaurants just a few miles away for an evening meal. We'll be going back soon.
