“beautiful setting but accomodations not so good”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 October 2010

Lovely setting but rooms are very dated (even the "new" wing) and not in the best shape. There was a used diaper and a beer can on the porch when we checked in to our room. Nights were cool which would have been great for leaving porch door open for fresh air, but blankets were wimpy and consequently we were cold. Also, there have been reports of bed bugs and at least one member of our party may have experienced this, although we have not confirmed that for sure. You can still enjoy the park without staying at the lodge. That might be a better option.

“Don't waste your money on staying at the lodge.”

Extremely disappointed. The room was musty smelling, old, needs remodeled. Walls are thin, we could hear people talking all night. Ran out of hot water in the shower. But, the worst thing was that the blanket on the bed was visibly dirty. When I requested a clean one, the girls at the desk acted like it was a problem. Then when they finally brought one, it was actually dirtier than the first one! I took it to the desk, and they were apologetic, brought another one (late) and - yes, it was dirty, too. We would have left, but it was late, and we were exhausted. When I tried to call the manager on Monday as advised, there was no answer. I will never go back!

stayed here for just 1 night getting in fairly late and had breakfast.

the room was a bit smaller than your ave. state park room but totally fine and comfortable, clean. the young'uns were bummed out that the pool was closed for the season (on a weekend in mid-sept), but i didn't check into that first so whatever.

our room had a screened door and a little padio opposite the parking lot, overlooking the pool, so we left the door open all night which made for nice fresh air and good sleeping with the cool air in the morn. not many places left where u can do that i don't mind tellin ya. place was nice and quiet at night. no idiot harley riders revving up for a change.

the setting was very nice and close to natural and man-made attractions like golf and junk.

bill was less than $100 so fairly ave. in that regard.

breakfast was basically buffet and kid 1 kid was free, the other was like $5 so not too bad there. quality was ok but again the setting was really nice with our table overlooking the woods on a big bluff.

not really a destination type place but very friendly and a good change of pace when passing through

“Pricey cabins but nicer than most”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 August 2010

Great little family getaway. Cabins were pricey at almost two hundred a night but they were well appointed and the ice cold A/C worked great on a hot, humid day. Parking was very convenient though some cabins sit right next to the road (still fairly quiet inside). The cabin's cozy porch, picnic table and campfire ring areas made great use of the outdoor space.

Our second night we decided to save some money (almost half) and stay in accomodations attached to the main lodge. Our room had a great view of the pool area and the friendly lifeguards allowed our kids to play with their floating/water toys. Downstairs hosts a reasonably priced restaurant with good food and accomodating staff. The lobby is perhaps the most stunning feature with its oversized windows and cathedral ceilings. At night we relaxed on the cozy armchairs and enjoyed watching a movie on their large flat-panel tv.

Within the park you'll also find a small lake to go paddle boating on, a miniature golf course, a playground and a fun privately-operated miniature train with a nice conductor. There's also golf and tennis facilities, hiking trails and a beautiful pavillion for parties/receptions.

Finally, if you decide to venture into town for a meal, Down on Main Street in Owenton @(502) 662-0262, was a great cheap place to eat. The service was a little slow but the quality of the food and drinks more than made up for it. Oh, and it's the only decent sit-down restaurant open on Sunday nights! (lol)

“MY BIRTHDAY WEEKEND”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 August 2010

Made online reservation. Honored gracefully...1 bedroom suite cottage, everything you need, linen and towel service mobile! Came for 3 day fishing excursion with lakeside cottage access, not bad. Lodge restaurant, Two Rivers has a generous buffet ---breakfast w/fried apples and cheddar bacon potatoes-lunch w/ soup and salad bar---dinner w/ fried catfish, bbq and cheese selection, very good value. Planning late April reservation for better fishing experience, August not good for fishing too hot. Will revisit happily. Also Casino access less than 20 miles away.
