The Hilton Garden Inn is located just across the river from downtown on the Kansas side. It was probably a 7 minute drive to the Sprint center and places such as the Rivermarket, the performing art center, and just a few minutes more to the Plaza.
We found the staff to be helpful and friendly and the room was comfortable and clean. We enjoyed the complimentary cookies at the front desk. The hot tub and pool were a welcome place to relax although the hot tub was a few degrees cooler than ideal and didn't have much bubbling.
Really our only complaint was that the (free) wireless access was really slow.
Overall I would recommend this as a good choice for someone wanting convenient access to the great activities Kansas City has to offer in and around the downtown area.
This downtown location was a last minute choice due to construction traffic. Using the 800 Hilton number I made the reservation not realizing it was downtown and 10 miles away from the freeway I was traveling on. Upon arrival at dusk I quickly realized this was in an area of downtown where it seemed unsafe at night. Parking was in a deck behind the hotel where carts for hauling luggage were not available - these were inside the hotel across the deck - the deck was not well lit and frequent traffic. I was concerned about my vehicle and it's security during my stay. The staff were friendly at check in. The restaurant staff were hurried and not attentive - the food was very bad- to the point of being inedible ( quesadillas) - Later in the evening around midnight the room next door to mine became a party place on Friday night - I must say security was prompt and tried to deal with the situation - however it became apparent this guest was here to party and nothing was going to change- I requested a room and floor change and my request granted with no problem. This event was not the hotel's fault and I believe they did everything within their power to correct the situation. I cannot recommend this hotel unless you have specific business within downtown Kansas City.
We just stayed at this hotel this past weekend. Nothing to write home about. We ended up with a handicap room (hope nobody needed it)...dont know why they put us there as I made reservations 5 months in advance. There was fesus on the shower chair, blood dried and dripped down the wall by the toilet paper holder and our sheets had black Ink stains on them. You had to hold the handle down on the toilet to get it to flush too. The sheets smelled fresh but were stained. We stayed in room 503 and two doors down from us they must have had a situation as it looked like someone had to remove the whole door frame with FORCE and was hanging in the hole!?!? We asked for directions at the front desk and were given bogus directions numerous times. The breakfast was okay in the mornings but there coffee is Awful and I love my coffee. We stayed two nights but would have changed to another hotel had we felt we could have found someplace to stay as Nascar race was in town.
This hotel was in Kansas City KS which is trying to come back to life, so don't expect much in the way of local or nearby selections. That said however the rooms and hotel in general were standard Hilton. Nothing over the top but clean quiet rooms.
