“Keep Driving”

We were in Goodland the first week of Oct 2005 and my wife insists on staying at BestWestern Hotels.Well this place put an end to that! This was by far the nastiest, most run down property I have ever seen and what they charge is about $55.00 too much. The restaurant is horrible and service is literally non existant. I stayed here back in the early 80s and it was nice then...Dont think anything has been done since the 80s though. Take my advice and that of others on this sight..Find another place in town or keep on driving.

“Goodland's Badhotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2005

This hotel was SUCH a pit, and paying $68 (before tax) made it seem even worse. It's as plain and ugly on the inside as it is on the outside, so what you see as you pull up is what you'll get.

The first thing we noticed as we came in our room was that it had the musty mildewy smell that older hotels have in terminally damp enviroments, yet Goodland KS is as dry as a bone. The answer came the next morning when we turned on the shower and then got diverted by news about Hurricane Rita on the news. Suddenly we noticed we had our own little natural disaster pouring out of the bathroom- the shower curtain could not contain the stream of the shower and the tiny bathroom had quickly filled with water, which was pouring out into the room and rapidly soaking the carpet! On the other hand, the power of the shower was about the only thing I enjoyed about my stay, we just dumped all the towels on the floor and let the shower pound us. The knob to the cold water immediately came off in my hand as soon as I touched it, but the water wasn't hot enough to really need any cold added.

We turned on the air conditioner, but only a tiny poot of coolish air leaked forth. Luckily we were only there at night.

The complimentary hot breakfast is a joke (on you); what happens is you go to their "restaurant" and show the waitress your coupons, then she asks you if you want white or wheat. That's the entirity of your input. About 2 minutes later you get a plate of microwaved frozen shredded hashbrowns and powered scrambled aigs with unbuttered toast tossed before you. WOO WOO!

However, right next door to the hotel is a fabulous, muy authentico little mexican restaurant run by some people up from Zacatecas, where the food is tasty, cheap and plentiful. That's the only business you'll ever find me doing in that neighborhood of Goodland ever again!

“Inexpensive”

Goodland is a wonderful small town with most everything a traveler could want. If you are looking for a plain room that doesn't cost much, this is the hotel for you. It is a no-frills, low cost hotel that delivers a fair room for a fair price.

Stayed one night on our way to Colorado. Our room was smelly and the airconditioner didn't work well. The swimming pool was thick and cloudy with lots of floating bugs. The restaurant was terrible. Service was slow and inexperienced and the food was over priced and not well prepared (once it got to the table) It took over an hour and half for two people in our party to get their meal - thirty minutes later than everyone else. There is a complimentary breakfast buffett, but it isn't really worth it.

“Has changed since last time”

We stayed here on our way by Goodland, and last year this was a great stay. This time, the pool heater was broken and water was ice cold. Also, the A/C didn't work in part of the building and it took three times to find a room that had working A/C. When we tried to eat in the restaurant on Sunday morning, it took forever to get seated, and when we did, the waitress informed us that they were out of C02, milk, OJ, apple juice and coffee. She had water and tomato juice. And, by the way, we are out of eggs and pancakes/waffles. We left at that point and had to spend another $25 on breakfast when it was included in our room rate. The rooms were nice and clean, and the TV selection was great. The grounds were overgrown with puncture vines, and has definitely changed in the past twelve months. I wouldn't recommend this unless you were in a pinch. We toured the Howard Johnsons on the way out, and were impressed with the changes there. We will try them next time.
