“I would recommend this to anyone!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2010

I could not find the place when I drove into town about midnight. I called the front desk, and a gentleman answered right away and I got good directions. Very helpful and friendly night desk clerk. The place is well maintained and the room was nice and clean. I was near the pool area. The only disappointment was that the hot tub was out of service. I went to breakfast and it was good. Bacon, egg, pancake and coffee. Simple and delicious, for about $5.

“Nice but showing it's age”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 December 2010

I've stayed here before, about two months ago and wasn't real happy about it so the next time I stayed next door at the Motel 6 and was less happy so I'm back again. Now I can't remember what wasn't right the first time ... but this time ...
When I go to check in, all the ask for is the last four digits of the card I paid with last time, then ask a couple of more questions to make sure it's me and give me a key. Wow, I'm surprised more places don't do that. When I get to a motel I'm ready for a motel, not a half hour chit-chat with the clerk.
Two issues with the room, minor. One, the door is missing it's numbers, the clerk says it 'just happened' but who knows. The other is that the upholstery on the chair at the desk is split, it seems to be from age and wear.
This is an older motel, I think it was still a Holiday Inn a few years ago when I started driving and has changed names a few times since.
The in-house restaurant still seems to draw a crowd, tonight I went next door to Bruff's but might try the in-house next time I'm in town.

“Needs work but okay for a night off the road”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2010

One thing that bugs us is logding places that say they are non-smoking, yet you walk into a room that is supposedly non-smoking, turn on the ventilation and you smell stale smoke! Folks, in addition to the carpet, drapes, bedding and any upholstered furniture, PLEASE don't forget to change or clean the HVAC filters for non-smoking rooms! Needless to say, this Guesthouse is one of these locations. Thank goodness we had some air freshner we sprayed into the intake a couple of times and it made the room tolerable. Also, heard alot of road noise. Bathroom was tiny, furnishings, etc. appeared old and could use an updating (a stop at Kmart would improve things!), but if you are looking for a place to just for one night that is close to the Interstate, this is probably as good as any and the AAA/AARP rate was not horrible. There are several restaurants at this exit as well. Would probably try to check out other hotels if passing thru Emporia again before settling for this.

“Not too bad for an old hotel- but overpriced”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 July 2010

This is an old Holidome that has been somewhat updated. The room itself was clean and ok, but the bathroom, though clean, was ancient. The rate of $79 is WAY overpriced when there are several other new hotels very close that charge about the same price or less.

“Beyond disgusting bathrooms!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2007

The hotel's photos are very misleading! The management did a budget renovation to our room -- cheap new furniture, curtains and bedspreads, along with sloppy, peeling wallpaper -- but they did NOTHING to the circa 1960s bathroom. It was DISGUSTING! See my photos.

The toilet was crusted with a yellow film and the toilet seat looked like someone literally threw battery acid on it. The lid was covered with mold. The tub area was equally crusted, moldy and decaying. The previous occupant's dirty bath towel was hanging on the door.

The old, matted blankets had dead bugs imbedded in them, and I developed "chigger" bites on my torso after our one-night stay, even though I stripped the bed and slept under the sheet only.

If we hadn't been checking in at midnight after driving eight hours, I would not have stayed. It was a horror.
