I stayed here on a solo road trip in July 2011. I ended up in Dodge City after a very long day of driving. Even though you might think that since Dodge City is a historical town that there would be a plethora of lodging, you'd be wrong. I had pulled over and used my iphone to find a decent priced hotel and Super 8 was the only one with interior corridors that came up under $100 a night. So, I made a beeline to Super 8 to get a room.
The lobby is incredibly small. There was one person already at the counter, who was having trouble due to an internet reservation. After another person arrived, the lobby was officially over capacity with four people. When I finally got to the desk, the clerk told me the only non-smoking room available was the handicapped room. As the lobby already smelled vaguely like smoke, I knew a smoking room would likely give me a migraine, so I agreed to the non-smoking, handicapped room. However, the clerk failed to mention that the entrance to the room was also located outside of the building.
The door to the room was accessible from the outside, directly across from the exterior side door. This is not a very safe arrangement for a solo traveler and I would urge anyone offered this room by the hotel to make sure you decline the room and go to a different hotel. The interior of the room was a longish hallway as you opened the door, with the bathroom to the left. The shower was the same as any other, the only difference was the addition of a shower bench off to the side. The toilet was a little wobbly as well, something that a handicapped person may find a bit dangerous. There was a window that overlooked the back parking lot and the window is the height that anyone could climb in. There did not appear to be any safety locks on the window either. The bedspreads were grungy old floral ones and while the beds were a bit lumpy, at least the sheets seemed to be clean.
There was a small fridge and microwave, a bonus for the room since I had not expected that. The TV was an old tube TV and didn't seem to be able to turn on without some static noise. There was no closet in the room I was in, and therefore, so luggage rack to put my suitcase on. I ended up setting it on top of the small table in the corner of the room.
Had the room been $45 a night, I wouldn't have been so ticked. As it was, it was about $90 a night and I was so uncomfortable and unsure of my safety, I did not have a decent night sleep. I have no idea how any of the other rooms in the hotel might be. I also skipped the continental breakfast the next morning because the lobby was just way too small to move around.
