This hotel is located downtown in Waterloo. It is very old but clean and comfortable. I really liked the carpet with the full borders in our room. It took a while to get the internet to work in my room and eventually I got it working - but with a weak signal. I was the last guest to arrive so there was no place to park on the property. Therefore, I had to park on the street in front of the hotel. That was ok since it was the weekend. For the price - I would stay here again. But I wish the management would do some work on the outside of the building as they have made the inside pretty nice. I would have given this hotel a 4 if the outside building was improved.

I stayed here for a weekend because I was attending the UNI International Schools Job Fair at the Sullivan Brothers Convention Center (adjacent to the Ramada Inn). This motel is about a one block walk to the motel. There was a snow storm right before my stay and there were piles of snow in the parking lot. I did see one of the front desk gals helping someone with a stuck car. The parking lot was a decent size.

The room itself was a bit musty and the heat felt very scathing. I stayed in a no smoking room but the hallways had a musty cigarette odor. They have an older elevator that runs although it goes slow. There were also melted puddles of water from all of the snow in the lobby, so watch out for that if you go when it's snowing out.

There was a continental breakfast which was pretty good. There was a do it yourself waffle bar, biscuits and gravy, packaged danishes, hard boiled eggs and fruit. The coffee wasn't too special but it was available.

Overall, if you are on a budget and am seeking a room convenient to the convention center than this will probably suit your needs.

Please note if you fly into Cedar Rapids airport the private taxi/shuttle services charge $100.00 one way!! (Well at least they did the weekend I was there). You would be better off flying into Waterloo airport.

We used our points for a room. We requested and received a king suite on the 4th floor 412 and were very happy with the room. It was older, but very large and clean. Reminded us of Bills in Las Vegas. Older, but very clean with nice staff! There was a tv in each room and newer AC/Heater. Furniture was dated, but again very clean. The bathroom was very clean with new sink and toilet. Quiet night and did not hear any noises.

Check in was fast with friendly clerk. She recommended Doughy Joeys a block away for good food and 10% off with room key. We ate there and was very good. The area is the old downtown and a few locations are boarded up, but the overall feel was ok for us . We did not worry about staying safe at all. Would stay again if in town.

We stayed here one night during our 20 day road trip.

I had some of the reviews on tripadvisor, and was a bit worried about this place, but the hotel was pretty good.

Room was comfortable, air worked fine, and the free WIFI was strong.

Hotel staff was very pleasant, and recommended a local eatery.

One reviewer in 2008 described this part of town as seedy, but I would say that it's improved a lot since then. It definitely seems to be a part of town that is more vibrant in the day time, but we walked several blocks from the hotel and never felt unsafe.

We ate dinner at Doughy Joey's which had several people (including families) there from about 7 to 9pm. There is a Gentleman's Club across the street from Doughy Joey's, but even that wasn't seedy.
