We attended the Isle for a Wedding in August. I called months in advance to reserve our room under the wedding party rate - at the time, I asked the woman what time check in was and she stated 4pm. I said we would be traveling from a long distance and asked if it would be a problem for us to get an early check in? She said as long as there are rooms ready and we call ahead, it should not be a problem.
The check in day arrives - I phoned the 1-800 number listed on the Isle's website ahead of time to inquire about an early check in (as the lady previously instructed me to do). The operator asked for my name and confirmation number, looked up my reservation and stated, 'it looks like we have rooms ready so this should not be a problem.' We get to the hotel, and I go to check in. I tell the girl at the front desk that I was there to check in, and the girl states, 'check in is not until 4pm.' I said I understood that but that we called in advance and the woman I spoke to said they had rooms ready and it would not be a problem. She said 'just a minute,' and went to speak to someone else. She came back and said 'I can get you in at 1pm.' It was noon at the time and my husband and I had just spent two days in the car driving to Waterloo from CO and we had nowhere else to go. I told her this and said I did not understand and that the lady on the phone said it would not be a problem. She then asked me if I knew who I talked to. I said no, and she said, 'well what number did you call?' I stated the one on their website. And she said, 'well check in isn't until 4pm.' I again stated that I understood that but when I called the lady said they had rooms ready and it would be no problem and she reiterated that we could not check in until 1pm. She was not friendly and was completely rude throughout this entire process.
My husband and I then asked to speak to a manager. We explained the situation and he said, 'Well, check in is not until 4pm.' Again I stated I understood that but that I made sure when I made the reservation that an early check in would be possible and then I did as she instructed, called ahead and the woman I spoke to said that they had rooms ready and it would not be a problem. He then asked me again, 'Who did you talk to? And what number did you call?' I said I called the number on their website and he said, 'The 1-800 number?' I said yes and he said, 'That's the call-in number.' I said that was the number on their website, so why could I not call that number? He said, 'She was probably just looking up the Beloxi location and didn't know if they really had rooms ready.' I said, no, she asked for my name and my confirmation number and she looked up my specific reservation, told me there were rooms ready and it would not be a problem. He then said, 'You realize that check in is not until 4pm.' I said yes, I understand that but I called ahead and she told me it would not be a problem. We just drove in from CO and we have nowhere else to go for an hour...he finally let us check in, but reiterated about 5 times that check in was not until 4pm. He was also completely rude and unfriendly...I must admit that by that time I was not being the friendliest myself, but it was so frustrating. I did everything right (as I was instructed to do), and it was still a fight to get into our room. I do not understand...if the room is ready, we are paying for the night, why is it such a problem to get us in early? Especially when we called ahead and requested an earlier check in?
The customer is most definitely not always right at this place! Our room was nice and clean but not worth the hassle at all. Not to mention they let customers smoke in their casino so even if you have a non-smoking room, your room still smells of cigarette smoke. We will never go back to this hotel, nor any other Isle hotel in the future. It was the worst customer experience we've ever had.
