I have no idea why when traveling to Iowa especially newton, even Des moines, you would dream of staying anywhere else. I'm not kidding. This place is a lifetime experience. It was built in 1909 by a Senator, Spanish look, Italian flooring and French stained glass windows all original if i'm not mistaken. John and Anne run the Inn, both have extensive cooking experience however I believe John is the main cook. EVERYTHING is as local as it can be from chard in the back yard to pork and corn from local farmers. The food is ridiculously good with John's specialty homemade sour dough bread. To seemingly qualify the taste, I travel 1-2 a week throughout the US and sometimes the rest of the world. I spend hours looking up slow food restaurants and "the best" places to eat. I rarely do a chain unless thats all there is ie. skyline chili in cincinnati. The house has a great rustic feel to it and some of the beds are old feather beds. They do very good at upkeep and they are extremely hospitable. I had to be at work at 7am John got up and had home made eggs benedict ready by 6:30 (the english muffin was even made from scratch). Not to mention their extensive wine list. This is must if your even in Des moines. its a 30-40 minute drive WELL worth it. Go to relax and eat, a time you will not soon forget.
