“Great place to stay in Newton”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2011

I recently traveled to Newton Iowa for a race being held at the nearby Iowa Speedway. After reading reviews of the local motels...and having the best rated motel being sold out...I decided to look out of the box and see if there was a B&B alternative. I found LaCorsette. I received prompt and courteous phone support when I made my initial inquiry and ultimately a reservation. The innkeepers were very nice and accommodating, even going as far as taking my 13 year old daughter to the library along with their own daughter. Most of my team ended up staying in the same place and all were happy with the arrangements. Next time I go to Newton, I will be staying here.

“Marvelous bed & breakfast in the heart of Newton”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 June 2011

Coming from out of town, we knew we wanted to stay at someplace special, and a local friend recommended LaCorsette and we couldn't have been more happier with their suggestion. The innkeepers were extremely hospitable and welcoming, and our dinner/breakfast was fantastic. Rest assured, we will be coming back.

“great hosts, great food, great character”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 June 2011

We had an excellent 4-course dinner, beautifully presented as well as thoughtfully and attentively served. Breakfast the next morning was equally delightful and creatively prepared. Our hosts were warm and engaging, offering just the right balance between conversation and privacy. The home is Spanish Mission Arts & Crafts Style with an interesting history and character. We really enjoyed our stay!

“Travelers Beware”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 June 2011

While traveling to Newton I did research on line which hotel should I stay for my one night of business travel. I phoned in to check on rates and they were firm no discounts were given even during the week for on night. So I hung up and continued looking. The other hotels were the average run of the mill foreign operated hotels. So I called the La Corsette back and booked my room. They claimed that they only had 2 rooms available one with a shower for $150.00 and one with just a tub for $125.00 so of corse I took the one with the shower...so when I get to my room on the second floor it is a little stuffy but livable there was no way to adjust the tempature in the room so by 4 am I woke up in a sweat. So I went to take a shower upon turning on the hot water the pipes made a funny noise which is to be expected in a century old establishment. The lukewarm water ran at a trickle and never fully got hot, side note the the shower is one of those hand held jobs that you have to hold while you stand in the middle of the tub. So the thought occurred to me I wonder how long it would take to fill this jaccuzzi tub that they are so proud of in there marking. So I pulled the stopper and 1 hour later the tub was 25% full and the water was getting cold. Two other things I would like to mention while writing this review I finally found the TV remote to there very dated television under the bed. The last thing I will mention is the bed the mattress and pillows seem old and dated and the duve cover should be replaced. I woke up with a bug bite that I did not have prior to going to sleep and I found what might be the remains of the spider that bit me crushed beneath my body when I awoke. I am a traveling sales salesman who sleeps in hotels 3 to 4 nights a week though out Iowa this runs a close second to the Algona Super 8 to being the worst over night experience I have ever had. So my advice to you is To skip this exit while you are traveling down the interstate. One last thought I forgot to mention it is free wifi, however; it is not high speed.

What an unpleasant surprise we had reading Mark_Anthony's review of the LaCorsette Inn, Newton, Iowa. As the Inn's proprietors we strive to make each of our guests as comfortable as possible.

It is our policy to extend discounts during the off-season (January thru April as we have advertised in the past). We have also extended discounts to loyal corporate customers and repeat guests.

If there is a particular room in which a guest is interested, we request 24 hour reservation notification. Otherwise we offer only rooms which will be guest ready by our regular 4:30 check-in.

We pride ourselves on our superior customer service, food quality and our lovely, safe and clean surroundings as hundreds of our guests have attested in guest books, on-line and by word of mouth.

The LaCorsette Inn is a romantic getaway. Its guest quarters are located in two homes; the primary home is over one hundred years old and the second home is over one hundred fifty years. Our clientele is inclined to visit us to experience a slower pace and to escape the everyday stressers that run all of us at times. Our televisions are not flat screen or high definition (although we do offer cable), and while we do offer wifi, the writer is correct in stating we do not have high speed internet access - nor do we advertise it.

Had we known about any of the number of problems Mark_Anthony expressed we certainly would have addressed them to our best ability. It is unfortunate we learned about them on-line and could not make amends.

Sincerely,
John & Anne Gerken, Innkeepers

“Wonderful, historic B&B with great food & service in central Iowa, close to Des Moines”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 July 2009

Not having enough time to fully savor the ambience of the Mission architecture, exquisite and unique interiors (note the stained glass with heart-shaped leaves - a theme repeated in woodwork throughout the house) - along with the delicious food - was the only flaw in our experience. We received stellar service while staying in the least expensive rooms and will choose to stay here again whenever we're in the area.

While an excellent B&B for a romantic rendezvous, our ideal would be to return with a group of close friends, spend a weekend and include a reserved dinner that would both challenge and reveal the creative talents of chef John.
