We have stayed at this Best Western Plus many times in the past. When we stayed here last year I wrote a review on another website and I was contacted by Nikki almost immediatly. My review commented on the outdated condition of the hotel. Nikki assured me the hotel was in a remodel and we may have received a room that was not remodeled yet. She assured me that my stay in the future would me my expectations. Upon check in a year later, my expectations were still not met. The room had water stains on the ceiling and insulation hanging out of the sprinkler head. The room still had a 19" tv from 1985 when the hotel was built. We went to the front desk to ask for another room and the front desk did try to accomodate our request with another room. We were given another room with same condition as the first. I called the front desk and told them of my disappointment in the room. I was told this room was remodeled as well. I asked for a definition of remodel and the definintion I was given was the room has new furniture. The televison was not replaced, the ceiling is stained and yellowed, the wall paper is bubbling off the wall, and the dust collecting fake plant is still in the room. The picture in the lobby did not represent our room. We did see a room that was completly remodeled with granite in the bathroom and a new television. Unfortunately, our room just had new furniture.

As for the Very Good rating.....
The cost of the room was very fare for the hotel chain. The restaurant (including the breakfast buffet that is included in the cost of the room) was excellent! We ate the Friday night fish fry and breakfast every morning of our stay. The night club 1 Hundred West was alot of fun and full of people having a great time! Barry, the bartender, was very friendly and outgoing.

My family stayed here as we traveled back to Kentucky after a visit to the Mayo Clinic. What a great place! The indoor pool was the warmest I have ever been in ( A big plus in Jan.) The atrium was beautiful. Our children played in the pool that night and we got up early just to take one last dip. Our room was nice and clean. The tub needed to be replaced not a big deal because it was still clean. It came with a free hot breakfast which was great (french toast, sauage, eggs, toast, fruit cereal). Very quiet

Great place to stay! Everything you need is right there- pool, jacuzzi, atrium, courtyard, bar, restaurant, kids games, etc. A delicious hot breakfast is included in the room price. All the staff is very friendly and helpful! My wife and I have stayed there around 28 nights total over the years, and have never had a bad experience.

I have actually stayed at the Steeplegate twice now; the last 2 years over Christmas. (Visiting family in Davenport.) This hotel's location is fairly convenient to our relative's home and always has decent rates, therefore it's an easy choice.

Here are my main thoughts on the hotel:
* Try not to get "upgraded" to a poolside room. We received this supposed upgrade during our most recent stay and it was not pleasant. The pool area is nice, but to have a room right next to it means that you have the echo-y noise of children in the pool, kids hollering, and adults talking & laughing. None of the behavior of the guests in the pool area was particularly rowdy or out of line; it is just that the space is not acoustically sound and the noises are easily heard in any room near the pool area.

* The breakfast buffet (which is included) is only OK. Many of the selections are not particularly warm and the coffee is quite weak. However, there are cereal options, fruit, and granola bars available too, which are nice to have included.

* Since we stayed on Christmas night the hotel staff was VERY limited; as in, I believe the only person working was the receptionist. When our room had been cleaned the staff person had not replenished the toilet paper and we were left with less than 1/2 of a roll. I had to call the front desk 3 times to get in touch with someone who said a man would drop off another roll. However, this man never did appear and I ended up going down to the desk to get extra supplies myself.

* The beds were reasonably comfortable and our room's decor looked as though it had been recently updated. It was very nice to have a small fridge in our room, as we had brought along snacks.

* The price was right; I believe our final price (inclusive of all the taxes) was about $70 for the evening.
