“Lovely B&B in a lovely small town...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 December 2011

I grew up in Rensselaer. When my family and I travel back home, we try to stay at the White House. I remember walking around Rensselaer as a teen and admiring this mansion and the nearby homes in this historic part of town. The owners are absolutely lovely and their breakfasts are immense and incredible! They - and the previous inn owners - have done wonderful research on the history of the home and very knowledgeable about this small town. The rooms vary in size and rates; the home is very quiet and the beds are comfortable. The fresh baked cookies at night were a nice touch too! One room was suitable for our two boys and us to share; most rooms are perfect for couples.

“Exquisite”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 February 2010

We arrived at this charming location jet lagged and exhausted from the long drive on the Interstate from O'Hare Airport and left 24 hours later completely rejuvenated and relaxed and ready for the next part of our journey through the beautiful state of Indiana. We were treated to a warm welcome and beautiful comfortable surroundings of the Rose Garden Room which was complete with home made cookies and drinks were available from a fridge on the corridor. There was no lacking in the hospitality of this beautiful old historic home which the owners have tended with care and love. The breakfast was cooked with the same warmth as the welcome and we awoke ( having slept through the jet lag) to delicious smells of baked french toast and delicious coffee. We enjoyed the company of the other guests over breakfast and then had a tour of the house from one of the inn keepers. It was our great fortune to come across this house and our only regret is that we didnt have longer to enjoy this beautiful town but we were on a tight schedule and time didnt permit a longer stay sadly. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Fall Festival the night we arrived and were charmed by the welcome of all the people we met who immediately recognised us as tourists. The White House is a once in a life time experience that you will immediately recognize from the pages of your favourite book and when you get there you will realize that being there is such a special experience, it will stay with you all your life.

I am attaching some photographs which I hope will convey some of the beauty of my favourite experience of 2009. With gracious thanks to the owners for making us feel so special.

“Warm, Inviting and Comfortable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2009

We stopped over in Rensselaer on the way home from Brown County, Indiana and we were glad we did. The White House on Park Avenue is a beautiful, historic home with devoted owners. They graciously allowed us to check in early because our room was ready, and they were really helpful with directions and suggestions about where to eat in town. They seemed happy to share the history of the home and its importance to the area. The location is perfect for visiting Willow Slough or Jasper-Pulaski Fish and Wildlife area (it's located right between the two). Our room was beautifully decorated and the bed was really comfortable. We appreciated the delicious oatmeal cookies in our room and the refrigerator with complimentary soft drinks and water down the hall. My only suggestion would be for hot drinks to be available in the evening as well. We had just spent the week in B&B lodgings and inns, and the breakfast here was the best of all of them. It included a "fruitini," (fresh fruit with honey and granola, served in a martini glass), baked eggs, orange french toast and the best bacon I have ever tasted. The coffee was great, too. The owners clearly love their home, and are warm and caring. I highly recommend the White House on Park Avenue.

“Perfect Place for Chicagoans”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 September 2009

We are not Chicagoans, but after staying here and seeing how close we were to Chicago, anyone from there will not regret the trip. We were traveling from Dayton to Chicago when we found this wonderful place. The town is just a short distance off of I-65, but miles from the fast-paced life. Several nice shops and local restaurants add to the attractiveness, but the charm and peacefulness of the B&B are the reasons you should come here and then come back. We took a walk around the tree-lined neighborhood and the Jasper County Square; both relaxing and enjoyable. Our room was large, beautifully decorated and the bed was very comfortable. We also enjoyed sitting outside and had the privilege of visiting with the hosts who are both instructors at St. Joseph's College nearby. After a very quiet night's sleep, the wonderful aromas of breakfast were coming up the stairs as we were coming down. The only way our visit could have been improved upon is if we could have stayed another night!
