We found this "B&B" and winery while doing a basic google search. Based upon what we saw on their website coupled with the limited reviews on here we thought we would give it a chance. We have stayed at B&Bs before so we had a reasonable idea of what to expect. Much to our considerable chagrin we were met with utter disappointment.
Let's start with our initial arrival. Upon driving and entering the front office area where the innkeepers were, the lady - whose name I cannot remember - seemed surprised that we were there. I guess she was not expected a dark-skinned person (who is Mediterranean) and a white female to be standing in her office. Her husband continued to stare at his computer refusing to even look at us. Strike one.
She said to follow her to the cottage which we did. Now, I will admit that the cottage was very cute in all respects. She gave us a succinct tour all the while having this odd look on her face as if we were going to hold her hostage. She pointed out that our "breakfast" was in the fridge. This consisted of: four slices of moist zucchini bread, a VERY small loaf of cranberry nut bread - which was the size of a soup can - and one banana and one orange. My wife and I looked at each other in bemused expressions pondering if this was supposed to last us the entire weekend. Surely, we thought, that this was just for one day. I am sure by now the reader of this entry know the outcome: the last morning there they did not re-stock the fridge with any more breakfast foods. The innkeepers, in their infinite wisdom, thought that the scarce amount of food was enough to sustain two adults for the entire weekend. Strike two.
On the second day of our stay we went up to the main house to pay for our lousy stay. The lady of the house said that we could tour the guest rooms in the house which we decided to do. If you go to their website the innkeepers indicated that their rooms have "complimentary chocolates." We were thinking Ghiradelli or something of that nature since it is appears they are one of the "best B&Bs around." I hope visitors enjoy bite-sized Snickers, Nestle Crunch, and other various leftover Halloween chocolate confections because that is what you are going to get. I found this very tasteless and was thanking my lucky stars I did not pony up for a room in the main house. Also, you would think that for $100 a night in the cottage that you would get, at the very least, a free wine tasting. Do not hold your breath people. Also, and I might be over-criticizing here, but the bed in the cottage was the most uncomfortable thing I have slept on since I was in Boy Scouts.
Listen, if you want to stay at a REAL B&B where they people are cordial and where you are getting more bang for your buck, then do not stay here. If you want to get fleeced then by all means Madison B&B is the place for you.
