When checking in at the Urbana Super 8, the clerk swiped and accepted our credit card. During the night we had a call from the desk clerk that made no sense to us regarding our card and we told him we would come to the desk in the a.m.
In the morning before we could do that, a desk clerk came to our room, unlocked our door and tried to come into the room -- something we found startling and invasive.
I went to the desk with the clerk, found that he said he could not read our card number. I then read the number to him FROM THE PAPER HE SAID HE COULD NOT READ! Supposedly that was fine.
Later, there was another big discussion with "Pops" who seemed to be managing the motel. They wanted to swipe our card again. Because we had been defrauded in the past by another hotel, we did not want to do that. We did not trust them. Their behavior seemed suspicious and threatening.
In the end, "Pops" said that we would not be charged for our room because of all the confusion and threats and inappropriate handling of this situation.
Today our credit card bill came. We were charged for that night. We did spend the night in the motel, so we will not contest that bill with our credit card company.
However, everyone should know that the management at the motel in Urbana is scary and intimidating to customers. We will certainly not return to that place. At any opportunity we will be sure others know of our bad experience. And, when we are traveling again and have a choice between Super 8 and other motels, we will not choose Super 8.
