Our stay was during Xmas break for 4 nights and this hotel was packed full of vacationing couples and families. We loved the location because our main objective was to go to IKEA. This is the closest hotel to IKEA. It's right across the street and literally a stone's throw away. It is also close to the other shopping areas in Schaumburg. Everywhere here would be considered close. We have, over the years, stayed in many hotels in this area and this place is our best pick, not just because of IKEA. There are many reasons to like this place and a few cons.
The hotel sports a modern look with contemporary furnishings. We had a double room and the beds were very comfortable. There was a sectional that spanned one end of the room with the beds on the other side of a small partition. The flat panel TV could be shared between the two areas. The fridge is very useful too. The workspace is convenient with outlets closeby and plenty of them.
Breakfast was good but see below for more info:
Here are some cons but some of them may not bother you as much as others:
1. When you open the door, you can see straight into the bathroom.
2. A big mirror is right opposite the two double beds (one more than the other). The bright light over it that is so useful is glaring if its on while one tries to rest on the bed. You will also be staring at yourself in the mirror inadvertently while you're watching TV from bed.
3. The two night lights have 3 positions. Off, On (with one bulb on) or On (with 2 bulbs on). Both on positions are brighter than hell. If you just want a soft light, you're out of luck. Plus, the reflection in the mirror doesn't help!
4. The bathtub is extremely curved, so for some people it may be a problem getting a sure footing.
5. This may not bother most people (not us) but icemakers are on every odd floor. We were on 6th and there was no icemaker.
6. Breakfast was chaotic if you are going at the usual time people go. There are places to sit all around the lobby, but they are not all comfy eating spots. However, the French Toast is something special - a must try.
7. The floor was constantly wet because of the number of families and kids who were using the pool.
8. The staff were visibly unused to the number of guests!! They could have been friendlier but they were not at all rude, just not as warm as other places.
In the end, I would come back here in a heartbeat because I was still reasonably comfortable in the room despite the lighting issues and you can't beat the location!
Room Tip: If you use a lot of ice, choose a room on an ODD floor. Ice machines are on 1st, 3rd and 5th floors...
