“Excellent service, great facilities. Recommended.”
Stayed here on my business trip in November 2011. Having read some of the other reviews and complaints from other TripAdvisor users I was bracing myself for a run down motel with questionable cleanliness, inefficient service and a location more like a truck stop in the middle of nowhere. Thankfully, I can say I experienced nothing of the sort. This is an excellent, modern budget hotel.
The hotel itself was very clean, staff were courteous and efficient. In fact, I would go so far as to say that the service I received was much better than that of some of the more expensive hotels I have stayed in. The facilities were indeed excellent for a budget hotel. The breakfast was fresh with a good selection of fresh fruit, cereals, fruit juice, waffles, toast, bagels etc. They also provide a PC to print boarding passes/documents etc.
The room was simple but perfect for me. I needed to work and had a nice desk, good free wifi connection and plenty of tea/coffee making facilities in the room. Rooms were cleaned promptly daily and the queen size bed was more than comfortable.
The area itself is Schaumburg, a town outside of Chicago. There is a large shopping mall ten minutes walk away and a large supermarket (Dominick's) about the same distance in the other direction. This part of Schaumburg is very much like a large shopping/business district and its not at all residential so its a bit tricky to tackle on foot but, as with much of the US, life becomes so much easier if you have a car (and they provide free parking)
Getting into Chicago itself on public transport takes a bit of an effort. You can get the 606 Pace bus (www.pacebus.com) from the Woodfield shopping mall which takes about 45mins to Rosemont on the blue line. From here its about an hour on the L to downtown Chicago. Taxis can be booked by the hotel at preferential rates. Expect to pay approximately $35-40 to O'Hare airport (although you should expect to pay closer to $50 from O'Hare to the hotel because of the state tax which adds a near 50% surcharge on cab fares beyond the city limits!)
However, given that this is a review of the Stay Inn and not of Schaumburg, its very hard to find fault with the excellent service they provided me. If I was really nitpicking, it would have been good to have a more modern TV (with cable/satellite) but for the price I paid and the excellent service I received I (unlike some of the other people who have written reviews) really could not complain. Recommended.
