We booked a room for the Chicago Marriott Schaumburg and was told when I called we'd have 2 queen size beds.. Well, the beds were not QUEEN size they were FULL size! So we went back to the front desk after checking out the room and was told we could have a king size bed, but where would my 2 children sleep? Well, the lady said the only rooms with a pull out sofa sleeper were the king suites. Asked if we could be upgraded to that and a gentleman said NO THOSE ARE SAVED FOR BUSINESS PROFESSIONALS ONLY!!! So we got stuck in a king size bedroom with a roll away bed.. Which by the way wasn't a king size bed!! The room was soo small that when they put the roll a way bed in it, there was no room to walk basically! This definitely is not the Marriott quality that i've had at other locations!! I will never stay here again, nor will i recommend it to anyone!
I have to say I don't agree with the ratings about the rooms not being clean. That was not my experience. This hotel is right next to the office park that my meetings were in, so walking was great. Eating in the hotel is possible, however, on Monday's the restaurant is closed so the menu is only available in the bar. This area didn't seem staffed enough for the number of guests at the hotel. On other nights, when the restaurant was open the crowd seemed more balanced. The food and drink was good in the hotel and all the staff were very friendly making an effort to remember guests during their stay. This was a nice touch. The rooms are excellent and the beds are very comfortable. The desk was more than adequate to charge my many devices at the same time.
Having a Starbucks in the lobby was a nice touch. I would have preferred some cheap free stuff, but I know that the Starbucks counter was getting a lot of traffic.
I did work out on this trip. There were about 10 cardio machines. Treadmills, eliptical, bikes. All of them new and even though the room was packed on a Friday morning, there was a good amount of space between the machines so that sweaty guy right there wasn't too close!
Schaumburg overall has some nice restaurants. Make sure you have reservations. They fill up every night of the week. Many of them are a 5 minute drive from the hotel, so it was very convenient.
This hotel is a minimalist hotel in that it only strives to meet the minimum in most areas. I can't think of any reason to stay at this hotel other than business since the hotel is completely oriented to the business traveler.
My room was of adequate size and clean but starting to show wear. The work desk was banged up and the tinting on the window was torn off in some areas. The bathroom was a little small but adequate. The bottom sheet on my bed had two large holes and I called to have it replaced three days in a row and it was never changed by the end of my six day stay.
The offerings in the concierge lounge were minimal in keeping with the theme of meeting the minimum. It is also only open in the AM for breakfast and again from 5:30PM.
If you can avoid eating in the hotel do so. The restaurant has a limited menu and serves tasteless food. I tried room service one night and it took over an hour to get a burger. I ate in the bar once and service was slow with lukewarm soup and had to ask for condiments such as mustard etc. The food service in the whole hotel just seemed disorganized.
The staff was unfailingly polite but that was as far as it went, they never tried to fix a problem they just smiled a lot.
If a minimal experience is what you want you won't be disappointed in this hotel.
Stayed for NYE 2012 and room (king suite) was small, bathroom was small and not clean. There was dust on most of the furniture, and in the corners of the bathroom. It had chipped paint and was overall rundown. The best thing was the bed, but with the cleanliness of the room (or lack of) I hesitated to even sit on it. This hotel was a huge disappointment and I will never go back or recommend it.
