There are no phones in the cabin and no internet connection and the TV didn't work, so I used my cell phone to call the emergency contact number to ask what I was doing wrong with the TV. Apparently the lady who is the emergency contact while I'm staying in their cabin isn't even in the area but is in Chicago, 2 or 3 hours away. She didn't act surprised at all that the TV didn't work, she said her mom had screwed up the Dish Network TV the previous week and said she hadn't had time to get it fixed. She told me to go to Walmart and rent a movie, just what I want to do on a romantic evening, take a trip to Wally World. Other than the lack of customer service and no shampoo in the showers the place wasn't too bad, pretty nice rustic cabins just outside of Galena with some nice views. For $200 a night though they are a little too pricey for as primitive as they are and the fact mom screws up the tv before you get there (or they didn't pay their bill and got the line axed, not sure which).

We stayed in Grant #4 cabin ... Grandma, daughter, and two young granddaughters. Loved the bovine neighbors just outside the window ... soft animal sounds greeted us in the morning ... the whirlpool in the eveninig with lights out and candlelights gave just the right atmosphere for 'girl talk' and a relaxing time to chat about all that Galena had taught us during the day ... mansion tours, ghost walks, trolley tours, and shops beyond your wildest imagination ... antiques, top shelf clothes, and a plethora of good restaurants to choose from ... we listened to the wind in the cottonwoods as we cozied up under warm quilts with a fire blazing through the night in a beautiful and rustic fireplace...will we return next fall? You bet! We experienced a water problem, but were fairly compensated by our host. Thanks, Tracey!

These authentic cabins were terrific. I spent 2 days in the Grant cabin with my mother and my 7 and 8 year old daughters. This place was perfect for us. We loved the beautiful setting in the country, however the property is just minutes from downtown Galena. We loved the warm fires (endless amt of firewood provided), and the whirlpool. The cabin was very comfortable and clean. There were plenty of warm blankets provided. The homemade fresh pumpkin and blueberry breads were very good. We had an issue with the bed the first night and it was fixed immediately and we were fairly compensated for our troubles. The innkeeper was very friendly. She made herself very available if we had any questions or concerns. We will definately go back and stay at the Allen Log Cabins next year.

This was a Mother/Daughter weekend getaway and we absolutely have a TERRIFIC time. Thank you for the great hospitality and great view.
