“Close to Perfect and What a Breakfast!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

Stayed here for a conference the weekend before last. Much to say about this hotel, almost all positive. The rooms are spacious, and of course being a suite it is rooms, not room. Although I was traveling alone on this trip it would have been perfect had my family been with me. You could put the kids to sleep in one room and stay up a bit in the other with a flatscreen TV, desk, and couch. Beds were clean and comfortable. All amenities as they should be, and having a frig in the room always a plus.

The breakfast included with the room is on an entirely different scale from your typical chain hotel free breakfast. This wasn't some cereal and a wafflemaker. They had a large grill going and made eggs and three egg omelets to order. You just want egg whites? No problem. Your choice of fresh ingredients in your omelet. There was also french toast, pancakes, scrambled eggs, breakfast meats, bagels, muffins, fresh fruit, coffee, tea, juice, cocoa, oatmeal, cereal, toast. The only thing I didn't see was a wafflemaker, which I didn't miss. Even though it was busy, lines were not excessive for both of my breakfasts. I didn't have to eat until dinner after this breakfast, which rivaled a breakfast from Perkins for free.

Speaking of dinner, every night the hotel had a free reception from for two hours with some appetizers (taco chips and salsa, etc.) and drinks - as in free drinks. Soft drinks, beer, wine, cocktails were all available to guests at no charge. This again was something I'd never seen before in a chain at this price point.

The location is very good, walking distance to Michigan Avenue in a central River north location, lots of restaurants nearby. The building shows no signs of wear. Nice place. Only flaw, the exercise room adjacent to the pool was closed. Not sure why. They had moved three or four pieces of equipment to another room as a temporary workout area, but this was inadequate. I assume whatever the problem was in the original room, which looked like a nice workout area, will be rectified shortly.

All in all an excellent stay. I would not hesitate to stay here again if the price was reasonable. I should add that I had a conference rate that was under $100 which was a fantastic value for this hotel, icing on the cake.

“Ipad stolen out of room”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

I would like to tell you this hotel is lovely, but you should be worried about theft while staying here. We left our iPad in the room as we were headed to check out. We realized it at the elevator ( never left the floor) and went back to get it. It was gone. The facts are 60 seconds after we shut the door the housekeeping entered and 3 minutes later we entered. Hotel security came, helped us look, and then told us their insurance would call us. We have been informed our claim was denied because it was NOT on the housekeeping cart. I had also asked the housekeeper on the floor if maybe she picked it up to turn in. The reality of it is Embassy Suites is calling us liars because our iPad was missing, but was not on housekeepings cart! As a person who once considered Hilton our preferred choice and have been gold or silver for the past 5 yrs I would certainly expect better customer service.

“Great location, service excellent Long lines”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

This ES was in a good location and close to the central area of Chicago a quick drive over to the Navy Pier although I suppose you could walk if you like.  We were lucky enough to stay in the Presidential suite on the top floor which was a great choice for our family of 5. One bedroom had 2 double beds and the other had a king bed and there were 2 full baths.  There was also an ample living room with a large L shaped couch and a very nice wet bar with a large dining area. 3 total flat screens.  Nice space.  The service there was also very good.  Their daily breakfast area would get crazy busy everyday we were there. As would the afternoon happy hour. Be there early or you'll have to fight in the lines or miss out.  I would recommend this hotel for families.

“Great choice for Chicago!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

We had a very good stay at the Embassy Suites while attending a conference. The hotel was centrally located downtown on State Street - lots of restaurants and shopping nearby. And with the subway just a block away we were able to take the subway to/from O'Hare.
The room was a two-room suite - clean and nicely-equipped with a small refrigerator, microwave, and coffee/tea maker, etc. The bed was very comfortable -- although the pillows could be a bit larger! -- and it was quiet. Overnight there wasn't much noise coming from the street outside. The only thing about the room that could be improved is updating the bathroom. The shower was excellent - great water pressure and good hot water, but the tub is old, and hence it was not sparkling as it should be. Indeed it looked a bit stained/darkened from years of use.
But on other positive notes: in the Atrium, there is a nice "manager's reception" each evening which is free and includes light snacks and drinks (non-alcholic and alcholic This was a good place to mingle with other conference participants. And the free breakfast in the morning (also in the Atrium) is excellent - plentiful, and lots of good fresh options.
There is an indoor pool which we didn't have time to use, but it looked quite nice.
There is a small business center which we both used. It was nice to be able to print documents from the computer for free.
A comfortable, very good choice for Chicago!

Room Tip: A room that does not overlook State Street is probably the most quiet.

“Great location with comfortable rooms”

I stayed at this hotel over New Year's with my husband and some friends. The rooms were very clean and spacious. Our room was right across from the elevators which was quite noisy, day and night. The happy hour was a nice bonus, and the breakfast each morning was quite good. The hotel's location is very close to Michigan Avenue, restaurants and shopping. I would definitely stay here again next time I'm in Chicago.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the elevators. Also, try to get a room on at least the 4th or 5th floor to...
