20 minutes drive south of the loop in an area somewhat off the beaten track, when we drove up to the B+B we weren't sure what to expect. The neighborhood feels a little edgy, though it was absolutely fine. First impressions of the B+B were not good. There's a very ill fitting curtain sagging from a third floor window, the front garden isn't a garden but a haven for weeds and an unlocked security gate near the pavement meant I was somewhat trepidatious about going in. The front hallway had signs, 'MAKE SURE TO LOCK THE DOOR BEHIND YOU." Security turned out to be a non-issue, sound proofing did. I was delighted to find the room was very comfortable and though the bathroom was small, it was clean and comfortable. Unfortunately the room was not sound proof at all and other guests felt the same. I heard people coming and going from early morning and someone in the room above mine for an hour at midnite clomping above my head. The venue needs soundproofing. The staff were friendly and accommodating, the breakfast average. Overall I paid $175 for what I think should have been more around $125 value, so far off the beaten path in the Chicago area.

Thank you so much for your comments, which we truly value. We appreciate your compliments about our service and our clean and comfortable rooms. Though you may not have been familiar with our location, our B&B is one-half block from The University of Chicago campus, which is on Lake Michigan, 15 minutes from downtown Chicago by car, train, or bus. We are so sorry you had issues with sound. The majority of our guests -- dozens of whom have been kind enough to write kind reviews on TripAdvisor and elsewhere -- have not experienced this issue, but we absolutely will take your points about this very seriously. Had you advised us during your visit, we would have made every effort to address the problem to your complete satisfaction. Our only goal is that our guests have a totally positive experience. You also, unfortunately, stayed with us just as our front yard was in transition for our major summer landscaping project: we had left it untended to allow native plants to take root. And again, we appreciate your comments that the neighborhood is, indeed, safe. The diverse neighborhoods that surround The University of Chicago campus, one of the world’s preeminent research universities, include noted museums and art galleries and numerous related graduate institutions, as well as the home of President Obama – and make our area one of the most distinctive in Chicago.
