“A gem near University of Chicago”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 November 2011

My wife and I spent this past weekend at the UQ. The location was excellent, the room clean and well supplied, and the cordiality of the innkeeper was without equal. What was even more special was the presence of Tuxedo, the cat, who added much to the experience. The breakfasts were tasty and the snacks more than adequate. We can highly recommend this B and B to anyone needing a wonderful place to stay ner the University of Chicago.

Room Tip: Ask for the room with own bathroom

“Very comfortable and convenient”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2011

Booked at this B & B because I needed to be at the University of Chicago for an evening meeting and didn't want a long drive afterwards. The room was very comfortable and the B & B is beautiful. And breakfast was wonderful - best eggs ever!

“Booked on short notice and was very nice”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 September 2011

We booked this on extremely short notice so that we could be near our son who had surgery at U of Chicago Hospital. It is very convenient to the south campus, very clean and the owners were extremely accommodating and helpful. The rooms are a bit small, but served our purpose well. Breakfast was AMAZING!! We thought we were just having oatmeal and fruit, but then came anything we wanted - eggs, pancakes, waffles, lots and lots of coffee.

Room Tip: There is only one room with an in-suite bathroom. The bed is only a double.

“Convenient for U Chicago visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2011

The hosts were very friendly and our room/suite was comfortable. Unfortunately, the internet doesn't work well on Mac computers and we couldn't access the first night of the stay. There are no televisions in the rooms and the location is not a safe area. When we arrived there were nearby homes with shouting and arguing and the pirvate hire taxi driver told us not to go out after dark in this area. Our room also smelled like cat litter which seemed to be coming through the a/c system vents. The hosts were very surprised and appreciative to find out about this so they could resolve the problem. It's a long walk to the Metro station so don't plan on using it at night. You'll need a taxi if you want to play it 'safe'. The area surrounding here is sketchy at best.

“Far from the Centre of Chicago”

20 minutes drive south of the loop in an area somewhat off the beaten track, when we drove up to the B+B we weren't sure what to expect. The neighborhood feels a little edgy, though it was absolutely fine. First impressions of the B+B were not good. There's a very ill fitting curtain sagging from a third floor window, the front garden isn't a garden but a haven for weeds and an unlocked security gate near the pavement meant I was somewhat trepidatious about going in. The front hallway had signs, 'MAKE SURE TO LOCK THE DOOR BEHIND YOU." Security turned out to be a non-issue, sound proofing did. I was delighted to find the room was very comfortable and though the bathroom was small, it was clean and comfortable. Unfortunately the room was not sound proof at all and other guests felt the same. I heard people coming and going from early morning and someone in the room above mine for an hour at midnite clomping above my head. The venue needs soundproofing. The staff were friendly and accommodating, the breakfast average. Overall I paid $175 for what I think should have been more around $125 value, so far off the beaten path in the Chicago area.

Room Tip: Book early and ask for their best room

Thank you so much for your comments, which we truly value. We appreciate your compliments about our service and our clean and comfortable rooms. Though you may not have been familiar with our location, our B&B is one-half block from The University of Chicago campus, which is on Lake Michigan, 15 minutes from downtown Chicago by car, train, or bus. We are so sorry you had issues with sound. The majority of our guests -- dozens of whom have been kind enough to write kind reviews on TripAdvisor and elsewhere -- have not experienced this issue, but we absolutely will take your points about this very seriously. Had you advised us during your visit, we would have made every effort to address the problem to your complete satisfaction. Our only goal is that our guests have a totally positive experience. You also, unfortunately, stayed with us just as our front yard was in transition for our major summer landscaping project: we had left it untended to allow native plants to take root. And again, we appreciate your comments that the neighborhood is, indeed, safe. The diverse neighborhoods that surround The University of Chicago campus, one of the world’s preeminent research universities, include noted museums and art galleries and numerous related graduate institutions, as well as the home of President Obama – and make our area one of the most distinctive in Chicago.
