I have contacted Choice hotel’s corporate headquarters twice about the issues that I encountered during my stay at the Comfort Suites on Michigan Avenue. Both times they stated that the hotel would contact me within 72 hours about what they would do to rectify the situation. It has been well past that time frame therefore I assume they simply do not care therefore I am forced to inform people so that they do not go through what happened to me. First off, the room that I stayed in has a serious mold issue. I asked the front desk if they could do anything but nothing resulted from that conversation. When I walked into the room everyday it was so bad that I could taste it in the air. As for house keeping, I left notes to change the bedding but they refused to do it at all. During my stay, one of the elevators was out of service which made the wait too long so I opted for the stairs. This was another shock in that at each floor the stairwell was littered with dirty towels, glasses and dirty plates. The hotel offers ice water in a dispenser that contains lemons in the lobby. One day I went to enjoy a cup of water and someone had spit their chewing tobacco into a cup and turned it over onto the clean cups. It told the staff at the front desk and they look at me like deer in headlights. I am truly amazed that the staff here lacks any sense of urgency and the blatant lack of caring of their guest’s well being. The mold was so bad that I had two doctor visits and was put on antibiotics, steroids and an inhaler. I run triathlons and I am in great physical shape. If someone has a health condition, I would venture a guess that the hotel’s mold issue could possibly kill or seriously harm someone if they had long stay at this hotel. This hotel is not typical of other Choice hotels. It is too bad that the East Ohio location is no longer a Choice hotel because it was significant better than the Michigan Avenue location. The staff there could teach the Michigan Avenue how to run a hotel correctly. When I checked out, I told the gentleman at the desk about the mold issue and he seemed to be amazed to hear of the issue. This might be because a lack of communication between the staff at this hotel. Another guest overheard the conversation and concurred that they too have also noticed the issue. I sincerely hope that they correct the issues at this hotel because if they do not I fear that a bad review is the least of ramifications that could occur.
