I hate having to make the hotel decidions, and I usually do so based upon tripadvisor reviews and then make my own realistic review. At first, I was a bit disappointed....the lobby was so tiny, and no one greeted us. In fact, it was 2pm and there was only one person at the reception desk and he was on the phone for more than 5 minutes. The room was rather small, and the closet was tiny and the door was in a very bad location in the room. The TV was nice and the bed was comfy, however there was some traffic noise, afterall, this is downtown Chicago....and those taxi's LOVE to beep their horn EVERY chance they get. Convenience was that it was across the street from a good restaurant (Haray Caray's), and there was a &-Eleven and a liqour store right around the corner. There was a continental breakfast on each floor every monring which was very nice, as well as an evening reception on the 6th floor which included free cocktails and appetizers (cheese and crackers, bruschetta, marinated mushrooms, veggie tray etc), however the atmosphere in the room was a zero, as it was in an empty hotel room with a few high top tables and no seats. All in all, I would give our overall stay a 7 out of a ten.

Thank you for sharing your comments on TripAdvisor. We’re pleased that you found our central location in downtown Chicago convenient and enjoyed our complimentary amenities such as our continental breakfast and evening cocktail reception. I apologize that our staff did not greet you upon your arrival; we take pride in the quality of service we deliver and I am disappointed to learn that it did not live up to the high standards we set for ourselves. We appreciate your feedback and will use it to work with our associates on the matter to ensure this oversight will not occur again in the future.
We apologize that the size of your room was not to your satisfaction. Almost all of our rooms are larger than the typical downtown Chicago hotel room but we do have a handful of rooms that are slightly smaller. If you’re coming back in the near future and would like a larger room, we also have corner king rooms and suites available for an additional cost which are more spacious and offer better city views. We look forward to welcoming you back to Chicago if you choose to stay at the Amalfi for your next visit.
Cordially,
