I had booked a corner suite (non-smoking) online months earlier, as I had to be in Chicago for a conference. Check-in and am surprised to hear I am placed in smoking room. Ask for non-smoking room, but was told none available. Found that odd, as it was early in the afternoon. SInce I had work to complete before late afternoon appointments, I took the smoking room.
When I walked in the room, I was shocked at the condition of the room. It looked as if a brawl had raged in the suite: hole in bathroom door, cigarette burn on toilet seat, long burn marks on living room area carpet, scuffed-up furniture, and stains on couch. Moreover, there was extensive mildew/mold in the corners of the shower/tub. No bureau/drawers in bedroom, but there was a bureau in the living room. Was quite surprised by the run-down condition of the room. Later, I found the refrigerator had not been cleaned either.
Bed was fine, and HVAC controls worked. I tipped the maid well each day and received decent maid service.
As others have noted, the made-to-order breakfast line took a very long time, even at the weekday opening time. I skipped the line on the weekend mornings, as I had 8:00 AM appointments a few blocks away. I worked late in my room two nights, and made the mistake of ordering room service one night. Thirty-five dollars for a pizza that was perhaps the worst representation of Chicago deep dish I have ever encountered. Skipped the evening receptions as I had no interest in waiting in line for a bowl of bar snacks and a glass of juice.
One final warning: Asked for a cab when I checked out as I had an early morning flight. No cabs in sight, and finally had to settle for a livery cab parked outside hotel. Cost to O'Hare was nearly $30 more than a cab.
Will definitely not stay at this property when I return to Chicago.
